Over the last two or three weeks, I've noticed multiple instances of recordings not stopping at the scheduled time, so I thought I would open a ticket for the latest example of this occurrence. In this instance I tried recording the movie "Marlowe" which MGM+ was broadcasting in the clear, but Emby stops recording about one hour into the movie. Here's the relevant output from the log file:

I've seen this behavior now with both of my tuners: a Ceton InfiniTV 6 ETH cable card tuner (using the Ceton Proxy app), and a Hauppauge Colossus 2 capture card. Not sure if this is related, but the problems started after I upgraded to Windows 11 23H2 in mid-November.

So this time the recording failed for some other reason, not I/O related, so instead of a 90 minute recording, it only recorded for 43 minutes. Note that this error happened at the launch of the recording, but I believe it's related to why the recordings aren't completing:

Where can I find the beta? I can install it over the weekend. 

In trying to record the latest Frontline documentary for the third time, I noticed the following (permissions/access?) error when I scheduled it, which might explain why recordings aren't completing (full log attached):

That's just access denied to schedule a wake with the system for the recording. That won't be a problem as long as your system is awake when the recording is supposed to happen.

If your system is always on then you can disable the live tv option to schedule wakes with the system.

Prior to installing the beta, I rebooted my computer to see if it would complete a recording and it worked. My computer is only on for about 8 hours a day, so I'm thinking the constant sleeping & waking is causing problems for Emby? Is that possible?

More evidence that the issue is isolated to Emby: last night I recorded a show using the extremely basic WinTV scheduler that comes with my Colossus 2 capture card, and the recording completed successfully. I believe Emby makes use of WinTV on the backend to make Colossus recordings, yet when I schedule recordings with Emby they aren't completing for some reason.

If you mean the beta, then no I haven't tried it. I'm not opposed to trying it, but wanted to do more testing with the current release first. I have already determined the following:

- rebooting my computer seems to address the issues with the Emby recordings not completing; not sure how many days need to elapse before problem is re-introduced. Could be as little as one day, particularly if the problem is introduced by sleep mode which occurs on a daily basis (my computer is only on 8 hours per day).

- The native WinTV recording scheduler that comes with my Colossus 2 capture card doesn't appear to be affected by my computer entering sleep mode on a daily basis. By using this native recorder, I was able to complete a recording with my Colossus 2 for the first time in a couple of months.

I have some feedback on this:

- The cablecard recordings were being impacted by an aggressive SATA power saving setting in my motherboard BIOS. I had enabled this setting thinking it wouldn't impact my recordings since they are made to an NVMe drive (using PCIe protocol not SATA). Once I disabled this power saving setting, these recordings started completing again.

- The WinTV recordings just needed a software update from Hauppauge.

So after working for two months to stabilize my system a couple of days ago my installation was automatically updated from 4.7.14 to Emby server version 4.8.0.80 and now recordings cannot complete anymore. This is a MASSIVE problem as this is my DVR for all my TV shows, and right now I CANNOT RECORD ANYTHING!!! Extremely disappointed. Please find attached a full log showing an attempt to record a show called 'Ayman' which failed 13 minutes into the recording. What's interesting is that sometimes I can go into the EPG and launch a live stream of the same show I was trying to record, and it works fine, but other times the live stream fails with error message "Playback Error: No compatible streams are currently available. Please try again later or contact your system administrator for details."

On a side note, I tried going back to 4.7.14 using the portable installation, but for some reason it won't run anymore, whereas the portable installation for 4.8.0.80 does.

I did find something and we'll be getting a fix out in 4.8.1, although since you were already having an issue with 4.7.14 then I'm not sure it's related to whatever is happening for you. But you never know.

Like I said, after working on my issues for the past two months I had cleared up my recording problems with 4.7.14, and then when 4.8.0.80 was released, the recording problems came back with a vengeance. Now most recordings fail to launch in the first place, whereas before I would sometimes get incomplete recordings. This is a big difference.

When you have that issue do you by any chance have two videos options. When ever I have that I can't play either one. It happens rarely next time it happens I will open a new thread so hopefully it gets fixed. I am now back on the 4.7.14 as my family was very angry that recordings were stopping early.

Unfortunately, I couldn't roll back I did the whole install again. In my case it's not that hard the only hard part was to recreate all the series recordings again. I did run into an issue it was automatically updating so I posted a question in the server section how to stop auto update. Family is once again happy.

Just to be clear - those aren't two video options. 1080i refers to how many lines of resolution you have, whereas H.264 refers to the MPEG encoding format, which in this case is MPEG4. These two things are not incompatible.
