Rudig 0
Hi all, As quite happy media portal and argus user I'm looking around for other options. But I can't find what options media browser delivers me. Can I for instance use it like mepo as replacement for my tv? Can I browse YouTube on it? What is the difference between classic and theater? Where can I find which options media browser gives me? I can't seem to find it on the website which kind of puzzles me to be honest. The app integration is what I really like and need, but how the whole system works and what it delivers me is not clear.

Kent 91
Mediabrowser 3 is a client/server architecture, so first thing first is you need to run the mediabrowser server (windows, linux or mac). Once you install the Mediabrowser 3 server, that will give you the ability to configure your media and consume your media through common web browsers on pretty much any device (computers, droids, IOS). If you want to add Live TV to your server, you will need to install a back end, such as Windows Media Center, install ServerWMC (on the same computer as WMC) and then install the ServerWMC plugin for Mediabrowser server (in the plug-in section). There are guides to all this I believe in the tutorial sections of the forums. Edit: This is the guide I followed when I first was learning how to setup Live TV: http://mediaputer.com/guides/basic/2014/06/stream-live-tv-media-browser-serverwmc/ This will add Live TV to your web client. At this point, assuming you have pointed your server to your media, you could have movies, TV, Live TV, music and pictures setup, as well as any channel plug-ins you have installed through the server. Now on to clients: MBC is an add-on for WMC that allows you a 10' UI instead of using the standard web client. It is designed for remote control and large TV screens. MBT is pretty much the same thing (10' UI for TVs) but can be loaded as a stand-alone app and doesn't require WMC on the computer. As an example, I have mediabrowser server running on one Win7 computer that I also run WMC, ServerWMC, and MBC - it serves to my main TV in the family room. For a TV in my master bedroom (high WAF required), I have gigabyte brix that runs Win7, WMC and MBC. I also have MBT on both computers but as it is still in development, I utilize MBC 99% of the time at the moment. For other TVs in the house (kids TVs), i have Roku's on them running the Mediabrowser channel. Hope that helps! Rudig 0
Jep this helps. Replacing my standalone media portal and argus setup would mean. Mb server and MBT on the same machine combined with argus. Apps on my iPad and ready to go. Perfect thanks. Current setup is based on mepo 1.3 so WAF is not an issue anymore. We have more issues with our kids who don't understand that grandma we a normal tv cannot start the video they want to see :-) Perhaps an overview of different possible setups somewhere on the website would help. For me it was difficult to understand the options that mediabrowser is able to provide. We have an Argus TV server TV plugin which @@Sven has just released it is still beta but i'm sure he could use a tester if you are willing from a users point. MB server really is the heart of MediaBrowser, its the central nervous system. All information sent to clients comes from the server. If you have the server set up how you want it and your setting the way you want them... Most, if not all clients respect those settings, its only local setting you may have to adjust on the client side. So essentially you can have Window 8 client, MBT (please note this an alpha release, its stable enough but you may experience instability at times) and MB-Classic for WMC installed all on the same PC without any conflicts and try them out. MB Server can be installed anywhere and all clients will auto detect your mb server address and prompt you to connect when on a local network. I tried MediaPortal a few years back and found it extremely complicated to set up. You see that MB is a dream with the user really only requiring to point it to libraries. Some important KB articles for you to read before you get going. First is to set up your physical media folders as share folders using UNC this will make MBServer more compatible accross the network for all the clients, especially pads, phones, roku, etc. http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/703-how-to-make-unc-folder-shares/ Then follow the media files and folder structure setup http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/674-media-files-folders-structure/ Then go thru the MB3 server setup and config to get yourself familar http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/692-mb3-server-setup-and-configuration/ Finally check out the using the web client kb http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/730-mb3-server-using-the-web-client/ We've just launched MB Connect which makes it easier to connect remotely to your server and allow you to invite friends and family that are not on your local network to share your library I would suggest you set your server update level and client update level to beta as these are very stable releases. Similar to nightly builds http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/blog/1/entry-130-media-browser-server-305416-beta-released/ If there is anything else, just shout Edited November 2, 2014 by Cheesegeezer
Rudig 0
Hi thanks for all this info. Most of it is clear I think. In the Argus thread I'm already trying to help Sven out a bit. Unfortunatly I'm now on a old Windows Vista system which still does run. This will be replaced by a new system in the next few months. Once this is done and Sven still needs a test machine I can grant him full access to this machine. Thanks for your time and help!!

MB will need at least Windows 7. We don't support Vista...
