cncb 17 Posted March 23, 2023 Share Posted March 23, 2023 Please add the options to pass AC-4 audio and VC-1 video untouched to the new Fire Cube (gen 3). I would like to avoid transcoding whenever possible. Recordings with AC-4 audio are transcoded because the audio is unsupported, but isn't it possible to have ffmpeg in the Emby app decode to multi-channel PCM like it does with DTS-HD? Similarly, I have confirmed that Kodi can play VC-1 video unconverted on the new Fire Cube. I assume the Fire Cube is powerful enough to handle software decoding. I just had a long discussion with one of my friends as to why one of her shows was buffering like mad and how to fix it (as I encoded them in AV1 and she uses a 4k Max), and her response was "I read most of those words but I didn't understand them" We've been waiting for months (well over 6)and telling us to tell our users or ourselves to "sideload the standard Android app" is not a feasible answer. Telling me to install the Beta doesn't help my family and friends who are tech stupid. We've been waiting for months for these issues to be resolved, at least since September 2022, if not earlier. Parotting "sideload the standard app" every time an issue arises, is sadly not good enough. Is it Amazon certification that is holding everything back? LIke how Samsung won't allow the app in Canada? I tested the standard app on the Fire Cube and found the following: 1) AC-4 is passed on as is (says Direct Play) and plays properly. 2) VC-1 is also reported as Direct Play using the ffmpeg Renderer but playback is choppy. You didn't tell me what the user or server was but the log I found around that time was very short with no playback in it.
