ramseyn 8
Hi Very odd behaviour noted today. A couple of days ago I upgraded from 4.7.9 to 4.7.11 on my Asustor NAS. Today I moved some movies on the server (I had a couple of Star Trek movies in Movies->SciFi. I created Movies->SciFi->Star Trek and under that 2 subfolders, ->1. The Motion Picture and ->9. Insurrection I moved the two movies from the SciFi folder into the respective folders I created If I go to the SciFi folder in Emby client (phone, tablet or Windows PC) the movies still show in the SciFi folder but with no image and of course will not play, because the files are not in that folder. The Star Trek folder does not show up. The Dashboard has notifications: Could not load file or assembly 'MediaBrowser.Model Version=4.7.11.0, Culture=neutral, PublickeyToken=null'. The system cannot find the file specified. at Emby.Server.lmplementations.Library.LibraryManager.Add item, IDirectoryService directoryService) at Emby. Server.Implementations. Library.LibraryManager.Res files, IDirectoryService directoryService, Folder parent LibraryOptions libraryOptions) at MediaBrowser.Controller.Entities.Folder.ValidateChildrenlr progress, Cancellation Token cancellation Token, Boolean recursive, Boolean refreshChildMetadata, MetadataRefreshOptions refreshOptions, IDirectoryService directoryService) at Emby.Server.lmplementations.Library.LibraryManager.Vali refreshMetadatas, Cancellation Token cancellation Token) at Emby.Server.lmplementations. Library.LibraryManager.Per progress, Cancellation Token cancellation Token) at Emby. Server.lmplementations. Library.LibraryManager.Val progress, Cancellation Token cancellation Token) This would appear to be why the new movie locations don't show. But there is more... The NAS Emby detail agrees I am using 4.7.11. BUT, the Emby dashboard days I am using 4.7.9 on the server and a newer version (4.7.11) is available! The very one the NAS says I am using. I have tried turning Emby server off and on in the NAS ADM but nothing changes. I don't want to delete the install and install fresh as it warns I will lose all my settings. It's taken me many months to get them exactly as I want. A further oddity Working on some .ass files today for music videos, which work perfectly on Windows Media Player, 5kPlayer, VLC and Windows Movies on the PC; and on MX Pro on Android. But in Emby on any of these platforms, there is no CC buttons and no subtitles. An older music video does show subtitles available and I can select them. I am jumping to the conclusion that pre-existing subtitles have already been used and are remembered, but new ones are not available because, I assume, they haven't been seen in the library scan which failed. It looks as if they have to be scanned to be visible in the client. Note that after I stopped and started the Emby server on the NAS I did try a rescan, but it did not generate a notification. It also did not find the files The only logs in the Logs on Emby Server appear to be transcoding logs. I'm stumped.
Luke 36887
Quote I moved the two movies from the SciFi folder into the respective folders I created @ramseyn Hi, did you run a library scan after doing this? Quote The NAS Emby detail agrees I am using 4.7.11. BUT, the Emby dashboard days I am using 4.7.9 on the server and a newer version (4.7.11) is available! The very one the NAS says I am using. Can you try rebooting the NAS and then see if that changes? Quote But in Emby on any of these platforms, there is no CC buttons and no subtitles. Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
Solution ramseyn 8 Posted January 9, 2023 Author Solution Share Posted January 9, 2023 Hi Luke I restarted the NAS after the install. This morning after reading your post I restarted again. The version still showed 4.7.9. I turned off Emby and shut down the NAS then waited 30 mins and did a cold start, then restarted Emby manually. Bingo - it now shows 4.7.11 and a library scan has resulted in reflecting the new folders and the move of the files! What's more, after a rescan of the MusicVideos library, all the new .ass files are recognised and all the videos now have the CC button. Not sure why it took 3 reboots, one of them cold (though maybe it would have worked third time with a warm restart, who knows?) but regardless, thank yo SO much for the help. If anything like that happens again I shall start by turning Emby off, doing a cold start of the NAS and restarting Emby. Maybe the latest ADM update has a bug of some sort... Thanks again Luke - top man!
Jägs 72
One thing I've learned to do is to always shut down the Emby service in App Central before an upgrade. I'm not sure why, but I have had upgrades completely bork Emby and the only thing I could attribute to it is that, for some reason, it did not terminate Emby entirely before trying to do an upgrade. A manual shutdown should not really be necessary, but since I've done this, I've not had any problems.
