Emby creating extra artists and misidentifying artists.

Hey, something odd is happening with some music artists in Emby.  Here's one Example:

158287002_ScreenShot2022-12-22at8_55_47PM.png.6b3823f34ed194c1eaeba8cc0b780b13.png

You'll see that The Album artist is "Anderson .Paak".  Some tracks have a second artist on them, but Emby is renaming all of then as "Anderson .Paak".  If we click the first song, for example, "The Chase":

859571427_ScreenShot2022-12-22at8_56_14PM.png.1020007f3d4af283691eb1ebffbec98c.png

That picture is of the right artist, Kadhja Bonet.  But Emby is giving the name of the whole album artist.  If you click the metadata:

1038743479_ScreenShot2022-12-22at8_56_38PM.png.68ccf22a9bd382882537688029118ff9.png

Every one of those links are correct and go to Kadhja Bonet.  Any ideas why is this happening?

I've attached logs, and that one song if anyone wants to look at the metadata for it.

Have not actually tested but you have Artist "Anderson .Paak" with MBZArtistid for Kadhja Bonet

Retagged and delimited corrected the issue.  "feat." are automatically split in Emby.

So how does that compare to this one, which does work properly:

408401765_ScreenShot2022-12-22at9_36_59PM.png.ef8a455a5a3271d21ce8fe8d6d23c0da.png

and when you click Michael McDonald:

1817567549_ScreenShot2022-12-22at9_37_17PM.png.cc2d9ab339b506b9ed15e6e8705af1a6.png

Song file attached.

I like putting "feat." in the song label instead of the artist, because it keeps the "Artist" section cleaner.

Is there a way for Emby to read "feat" in a song title?

@Bigmack3000 That on drops Artist and uses Artists. Or should say Artists supersedes Artist.

So if it uses "Artists" then Emby will ignore the artistID for secondary artists?  and If it uses "Artist" it forced the artistid on all artists?  Is this correct?

No Emby reads the "/" or ";" delimited ids provider 3 Artists in last example as shown on the track.

If only Artist then artistid must match or you are liking provider info to wrong person.

But same can be accomplished in Artist field delimiting as Artists field or ever three individual Artist files.  Really depends on your tagger on how it provides the info.

But from my edit above Artists will supersede Artist field if present.

Where your first example mis-matched Artist and artistID linking.

Why won't this one show up correctly?  both artist id numbers are in the metadata. I added them with picard.  but it still shows up like this:

Did you look at it via ffrprobe?  You will see it does not see what Picard/MP3Tag sees

Yes MBZAid sees 2 but there is only one Artist or Artists via ffrprobe.

Potentially needs all tags removed and retagged but if it was rerun thru Picard it is missing a log to tags.

Hmm. when i put it in picard, it shows both under artits:

1993828077_ScreenShot2023-01-01at4_40_08PM.png.1805256e706a5bc4f267e57c37f04471.png

This release is not in mbz. So i had to add those tags myself.

@Lukemay have to comment as having multiple Artists fields only reads one.

image.png.93ec5622605dd559f9c015e1a55a3ae0.png

Where Picard shows them together

image.png.e2574855fbf9f73d68667cdcf3e48bcd.png

ffprobe only reads one not both

    artist : Anderson .Paak

    ARTISTS : Anderson .Paak

Fix was retagging Artists with both in one tag in MP3Tag.  Or full run through Picard.

Same for the additional files Dev will need to comment on multiple Artists fields as FFPROBE does not appear to read all, merging them works.

image.png.370034b03fad54e0080645e6070f0d79.png

Merged Artists so it looks like Composer

image.png.6eabce52b037cc268c43b9ab061ef36d.png

Since these are M4A files it could be the something with format itself as each container has different restictions/requirements.

Do you find MP3Tag to be better than picard overall?

It shows things a little different but easier to make edits.  Can't remember if it was a plugin/script or not but does MBZ queries also.  But is my primary go to.

Looks like Picard makes a list vs one line.

Interesting, that did fix it.  But there still must be something different with those files because I have plenty of other songs that list all the artists separately, and they show up in emby properly.

Does that occur with other containers as well?
