Native versus MPV?

Apologizing in advance as I am sure somewhere this is already answered but Im not finding anything comprehensive in search.

What are the advantages of using the native player over MPV or vice versa?

If I really dont care about transcoding (my machine can handle it and I am the only user) should I stick with one over the other?

My biggest concern is that the audio goes over to my receiver correctly (5.1) and if I have something HDR that it makes my TV switch to that.

Thanks and Merry Christmas all!

The native player has limited media support, for example it doesn't support MKV. Instead, it supports refresh rate and dynamic range matching.

The MPV player supports more formats but does not support refresh rate and dynamic range matching.

Thanks @vdatanet

Will it transcode mkv files or just plain not play them at all?

If the codec is supported it will be repackaged using HLS streams, if it's not supported it will be transcoded.
