I believe you, just not practical for 100k streams.

I only have a couple hundred channels, I would not load 100k channels in my emby. I only use what I need.

Your setup is not practical for anyone 🙂 Having an m3u with 100 thousand channels is a bit much my friend.

It would be nice if Emby separated it like TiviMate does.

The movie section on tivimate looks good but the tv series looks not so good.

Hmmm, never noticed a difference. I'm sure it varies with Provider.

It has to do with tivimate and how they choose to sort their vod tv series, go ask them to update it and also ask them to allow me to port my emby collection through it 🙂

I played around with tivimate today, added a recording path to external HD and even tried on usb it sucks. Only thing going for it is speed changing channels is it, guide don't even have images like emby does, emby guide looks better than tivimate does. Tivimate just feels cheap 👎 Switching groups is easier better but honestly who wants to scan through 500 groups looking for something in my language to watch damn. Sure I can spend hours going through deleting loads of junk I don't need want but my setup is perfect now I have couple hundred channels I don't need use tags just have my own channels I want in a simple text file.

I'm fussy, I like quality I like stable I like something for my entire family even my old ass family members can use emby with zero pc skills on a fire tv stick 🥰 All my family is on emby and they all cancelled there over priced shit tv on cable satellite.

@EODCrafter you can kiss my ass for making me waste all this time on tivimate testing it out today 🤣 Wasted time

You're saying that with an m3u with multiple links for a channel, Emby will go down the list until it finds a working link. Once Emby has chosen a link, will it fail over to another link if the one it was streaming times out?

I also had no idea Emby could handle multiple links for one channel.

VLC will do it but he says Emby will. I'm skeptical.... but I have no desire to test this by creating a custom m3u with 1000's of channels. Not going down that rabbit hole :) When Emby errors out on a channel, it just errors out, there is no recovery logic that I know of to "try the Next channel" in the m3u.

Any thoughts @cayars?

Last I heard that was "on the list" for future enhancements, but I do not believe it does that now.

I think this depends on what you're referring to.  The m3u file containing all the different channels will drop all but one version of the channel so it won't happen here.

If the entry in the master m3u file points to another m3u file vs a channel stream, then that m3u file could contain multiple versions of the channel.  This is typically done to have different resolution/bitrate versions used for ABR.  I know Emby chooses the highest bitrate version to start with and works it's way down the list.

How useful this would be I'm not sure because it's not like having 2 different streams from different providers, but multiple versions of the same stream done in real-time.  So likely if the providers stream goes down there won't be any version.

Many providers will give you multiple different versions of a channel SD, HD, UHD but they are delivered as different channel entries in the main m3u file.  If they instead setup m3u files for each channel with all the different entries in the channel m3u file it would work pretty well I'd imagine.

I don't think I understand your explanation at all perhaps because this statement is not what is being used. It is using the same channels from Multiple Providers, not different resolutions or Versions of the same stream. He spelled it out pretty clear in his "mock" m3u.

Perhaps this is why "Live TV" (iptv) in Emby has take years to fix.

I think this closes the debate......
