Missed that one, thanks.

Actually this:

Yes it looks like they go to /metadata/library as landscape images.  But same question what is a thumb/landscape at episode level?

We need that to be supported externally, i.e.

Back on subject: those images are already tracked internally as such (landscapes) if added manually; just add support for importing them if available locally.

Another solution would be to copy series thumb image as episode landscape (thumb-type image) by default by server itself at the time of import/artwork fetching/adding manually; that way noone would be the wiser, CW continuity would be preserved as same image (series thumb) would be presented, there'll be no apparent change for users not needing episode landscapes nor any additional options would be required. Episode thumb-type image is currently blank/unused, if user wants to assign image it needs to be added manually, makes no difference whether there's already an image there or there's none, as it is presently.

After PM with H2P, it has become apparent that desired outcome (CW/NU rows improvement) might not be properly/understandably/clearly conveyed due to my limited proficiency in English; here's hoping that some visuals would.

First, as there are several image types discussed here, some rules for image terminology should be established:

- Series thumb: thumb.ext/landscape.ext image, series thumb-type image

- Episode thumb: <episodefilename>-thumb.ext, episode primary-type image

- Episode landscape: no naming convention, episode thumb-type image

Second, setup:

Series images

Episode thumbs (primary images):

Screenshot 2023-04-13 163930.png

Episode 1 images (landscape added manually, copy of series thumb)

Screenshot 2023-04-13 164027.png

Episode 2 has primary image only.

Third, example:

Screenshot 2023-04-13 164057.png

(Episode 2 - no episode landscape, default/current Emby behavior)

vs.

Screenshot 2023-04-13 164131.png

(Episode 1 - episode landscape (thumb-type image) available).

Fourth, summary

So, same image (series thumb) with/sans treatment. If series thumb was copied as episode landscape, noone would see any difference - except CA users; there will be absolutely no change for average user compared to current presentation except making use of CoverArt overlays/treatment for Premiere users that opt for it. Not to mention sating that consistency urge and scratching that OCD itch.

I'm not observing same behavior, just changed episode backdrop, my CW/NU rows still present series thumb. Even if it were, fanarts are not CA overlayed/treated, so not sure how does it relate to the desired outcome described above?

I don't have any CoverArt treatments for TV so had never noticed whether it worked for that or not, but I have custom thumb/fanart images for my sports content and I see game-specific images in CW/NU.

Guess I'll have to do it visually again:

If you set episode fanart, that gets used in CW/NU.

If I assign fanart image to an episode (deliberately added other TV show image for distinction), all I get is changed episode backdrop, as expected - CW row retains true series thumb.

If I add same image as episode landscape, CW row uses that image - and that's what I'm after.

Edit: Maybe we don't have all of the same image types present on both series and episode levels (just as it is falling back to series fanart if no series thumb by default), so your installation is falling back to episode fanart. But with full sets of images concerned available on both levels, for me it is not doing so.

For reference, this is original series fanart:

This is same episode with inherited series fanart, before adding custom image:

And this is series artwork:

It does. After testing all combinations of images at series/episode levels, CW/NU rows get episode image in following fallback order:

1. Episode landscape

2. Series thumb

3. Episode fanart

4. Series fanart

5. Episode thumb (primary-type image)

6. Series poster

As 1. and 3. are never present by default - upon import/identify/image fetching, unless assigned manually - basically default behavior is 2->4->5->6, which are scraped automatically (if available). Lack of any of those (or addition of other types) causes behavior to be adjusted accordingly.

You're saying you prefer to see the episode images in continue watching? What about an option for that?

I'd say an option would be pretty nice and strongly needed. I'd much prefer episode thumbs instead of the generic series thumb.

@LukeHow about supporting import/exposing episode landscapes as they're already tracked as such in the db?

Or an option to copy series thumb as episode landscape?
