lolque 1 Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 I have a video with the following mediainfo: Title 1080p H264 Codec H264 Profile High Level 50 Resolution 1448x1080 Aspect Ratio 181:135 Interlaced No Framerate 29.97 Bitrate 45 mbps Bit Depth 8 bit Pixel Format yuv420p Reference Frames 1 Emby correctly detects it as 1080p in the episode viewer. But there are no 1080p quality options in the quality selector. playback logs.txt
Luke 40105 Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Hi, you might just have to scroll the options to see higher ones Have you tried that?
lolque 1 Posted August 8, 2022 Author Posted August 8, 2022 You cannot scroll any higher. This happens across both Emby Theater for Windows Desktop and Emby Web.
lolque 1 Posted August 8, 2022 Author Posted August 8, 2022 Even if I set the bitrate to 4k - 120Mbps in my user settings, Emby will use 720p - 10Mbps
Happy2Play 9445 Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 @Lukeis this client or server but has been brought up before. As it has something to do with the odd resolutions. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/105357-h264-codec-tag-avc1-file-cannot-be-played-through-web-browsers/&do=findComment&comment=1116509
MagicDoubleM 116 Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Double check the output resolution via stats for nerds. That list to choose from is more or less just about the bitrate, the decision making for resolution does it's own thing. So if the bitrate is high enough, the server will not downscale. 1
lolque 1 Posted August 8, 2022 Author Posted August 8, 2022 (edited) 45Mbps -> 10Mbps is a pretty large drop in quality here. I also can't force direct play using the quality settings, such as when Emby mis-calculates my internet speed, as it won't let me select a high enough bitrate since 720p is capped at 10Mbps. Separately though, it would be nice to have a "Max/Direct" setting to force direct play unless the format is not supported. Edited August 8, 2022 by lolque

The max setting is 720p - 10Mbps. Emby is transcoding it down, even when the video is supported by the app.

If you go to your playback settings and select the maximum bitrate there, then bitrate will never be a reason for transcoding any item (less than that max).
