That is one of the most voted FRs. Lend your support here:

As a workaround, you can use Server Configuration Backup plugin, make Default user, back it up and store somewhere safe for later retrieval.

Yes the SCB plugin to copy from one user to another, or you create a template account and copy the policy and config xmls to a new user account.  But with either process will require server restarts to read user info.

Can you explain how? Maybe a link to a post or guide?

The Server Configuration backup method no longer exist as the backup plugin changed.  The files still exist in /config/users/userid folders but easiest method is create a new user and copy from existing user.

So the question becomes what exactly are you trying to do as it is still limited to specific things and does not apply to display settings as those sort of are device specific?

For what it's worth, I was led to this post by you, on this other thread (see linked below). This other thread contains my answer tot he question you ask above (see linked below). While I get it, devices can contain different settings, I don't see it necessarily being relevant... maybe the USER would care (if I overwrote their preference should it be custom....) but nonetheless, I should be able to set a series of profile preferences (perhaps even everything) and share that, (or in this case UPDATE) everyone, instead of being forced to do it one at a time.

Thanks.

Currently no global options and would need to be updated individually.  Best bet would probably be via the api and update per user as all you would have to change is userid.

REST API Documentation

Or create a user and config it to your needs and copy the files into other users and restart Emby.

I had to recreate my media library -

I then had to select each existing user and set their permissions to include the "new" libraries.

I would call that a global option.

I decided "backdrops" could be used by all users (it wasn't originally set up)...

I then had to go into each user to enable backdrop images... I would call that a global option.

These are not the only two examples.

Yes current design as all user that have access restiction will not get automatic acces to any new library as there are usually reason for access control.

Backdrops are per client not global.  So setting backdrops in Edge does not apply to Chrome or Firefox for example.  Also clearing device/client cache will rest this option also.  As from a web client standpoint there is a default setting just like the navdrawer open/closed.   So device setting are not global.

And for the local web client it is via the usersettingsbuilder.js

So this become a big mess across every client as there isn't much that is global when it comes to user settings and device settings.  So templates really only apply to library order/access and some other configs.

Clearing device cache is something I'm willing to do. As long as I can set a consistent experience (or new experience) due to updates I've made in Emby, whether its new plugins, or new core features, or settings that sensibly could be considered global.

For libraries, we seem to be acknowledging the same point - Libraries are NOT automatically applied globably - that is not a complaint I'm making. However, having to go into each user and set access for them (including my default admin user) one at a time is.

Most of us probably dont share with more than a few dozen people... but either way -  applying library access to "all users" is indeed a feature for something useful. I just listed a few examples.

There are so many different level to user management but yes an option to apply to all existing would be nice but just does not exist yet.

One has to copy user configs to existing users (unless they go database only also) or push updates to each user via the api.

bumping this.  can we get a user management that can select a user then copy to any other users?  making a library change is a pain without mass user deployment.  looks like mass delete is the only thing we can do.

possibly enable groups?  home group remote group?  this would allow easy sorting and selection

HI, yes it's something I've been wanting to add.
