deckgamez
Hello all, Like a few of you, I'm also getting 'No Compatible Streams' ever since upgrading to 4.7.0.60. I'm trying to play using Browser on Windows or Mac, all have same issues. I can sometimes get a stream to work via Chrome on Mac, but no other browsers. I've also reinstalled the latest release over the top of the update. No change. Logs attached. Getting a hardware_detection log now that I've not seen before, attached it also. Luke
Hi, this is your issue:
deckgamez
Enabling 'Allow Video Transcoding' does fix it so can play media. But I've never needed this setting before. It's annoying because I have to keep setting the Quality to 1080p manually as it keeps jumping around to 720 or 480. My internet has no issues streaming 1080p In short, prior to 4.7.0.60 it's worked flawlessly. What's changed? And why do I need to Enable this setting now? Luke
The quality setting has no impact if you disable transcoding, because transcoding is needed in order to change quality.
deckgamez
Yes that's what I'm saying. If I disable Video Transcoding I can't play media I used to play prior to 4.7.0.60. With the setting enabled I need to manually change the quality setting when playing something
Luke
I think it might be trying to direct play first, then gets an error from the browser video player and restarts with transcoding to keep it playing.
deckgamez
I see in the log this... Info App: Bitrate exceeds DirectStream limit: media bitrate: 7662963, max bitrate: 1500000 How is this setting increased and where does it get this number? Any idea what could have caused this in 4.7.0.60?

deckgamez
Ok that has seemed to work for my user. Is there any way as an Admin I can change this for each user? Also why is Auto limiting my bitrate to 150000? In short, I want to force Direct Play/Stream for all users regardless of internet speed.
Luke
Quote Also why is Auto limiting my bitrate to 150000? Auto will often be conservative on a remote network. there's no way to raise this from the server, so it has to be done directly in the client app.

Luke
Has this helped?
deckgamez
Yes. By switching Allow Video Transcoding on for each user it has allowed them to watch. But like I said earlier, for years I've never enabled that option for my users and there has not been any issues (apart from 265 but that's fine). Old media I used to watch without this setting enabled now doesn't work unless it's enabled. I'm curious to why I need to enable it now.
Luke
I'm certainly curious but there's not enough info for me to determine that. It would require testing with the 4.6 server. In these examples above, looking at the individual requests and responses, I don't see anything that the 4.7 server is doing wrong. One possible theory is that the in-network detection has been tightened up a bit. I know these are remote connections, but maybe the 4.6 server thought the users were in the local network, and therefore the automatic bitrate value would end up being a really big number. Just a theory of course.
Luke
Edit: Nevermind, I found the issue. The fix will be in Emby Server 4.7.1. Thanks !
