Ability to Select(for copy/paste) disabled on Chromium based browsers

I'm not sure if this is intentional, or a maybe a side effect of having a touch screen, but I've noticed I can't select text for copy/paste anymore unless I use an extension to override and specifically allow it. I've tested it on Edge and Brave and the behavior is the same in both, but it doesn't happen under Firefox. It's not a huge deal, but it is mildly annoying when you actually do go try to select something. Also, it's in the entire UI as far as I can tell...configuration pages, detail pages for content etc.

Is that a known thing?

Hi, yes this happens when the browser tells us that touch is the primary input mechanism.

Gah! Touch screen strikes again!

Kicker: I actually have the touch screen disabled(it's my laptop) most of the time, because I'm just using external monitor, but the abilities are still reported apparently. It sounds like if I can get chromium to suppress reporting touch capability that would make things much better for me.
