Ready to Transfer, but never starts downloading

Download transferred reliably. No indicator that it was in progress or finished but I did transfer lightning fast.

I am now able to return to the main download menu without the app hanging/spinning as well!

Unfortunately that’s not the case for me on cellular connections. On Wi-Fi there’s no problem. Still on 5G Emby sits on read to transfer. I’m on the latest iOS 16.3 and the latest Emby 2.2.6.

Just to make sure you know: You are aware there is a checkbox in settings in the Emby iOS app that prevents downloads when on 4G/5G, right?

Of course. First thing I checked. It’s always set to allow 5G. I have the same setting checked in iOS settings too to allow cellular use.

Hi there, running on various iOS devices (running iOS 16.5.1) and Emby Prem. (Version 4.7.13.0) on docker with latest iOS app from Emby I've noticed something.

While I have the same "ready for transfer" I've seen some things I need to share;

  1. Only 1 device can download/transfer connect at a time,
  2. Although the status "ready for transfer" is visible, I can see on my network (unify) that the iPad is downloading at a high speed (200mbps).
  3. After that download, the next device will start it's download as it was waiting.

With this, it looks like the app(s) on various mobile OS needs another status as it's waiting on the server when it's done uploading towards a device that was already busy
and thus in queue.

Apparently nothing to edit previous post, so...

Another status for the mobile app is 'ready to transfer' is stuck, it needs to be changed to downloading as I am seeying this being done through my network...

Resurrecting this thread because it is still an issue for me. I can’t understand why pressing download can’t immediately start that download. I don’t know any other media apps that have to wait for a background process to kick in before a download can begin. Is there any update on if this system can be updated?

As a case in point I recently joined a new gym and discovered there was no Wi-Fi and the cellular signal can’t reach (it’s underground). I stepped outside to download a couple of episodes but couldn’t stand around waiting for the transfer to start. In the end I redownloaded Infuse, which can connect to my Emby server, and downloaded it there. I don’t think this should be necessary.

I don’t like complaining so let me also say thank you to the team for the continually amazing work on the Emby product. Sure I speak for many that appreciate the feature updates and support.

This issue sadly still persists, I also had two devices registered so I removed them both, removed the tasks, registered my device, reinitiated the download but the famous age old issue "Ready To Download" persists.

Like others said, just give us one way buttons that initiate conversion and another that can initiate a download once conversion is done. It's easy to maintain and reduces all these variable bugs.

HI, just opening up the download settings screen is one way to start the background process immediately.

Good to know thank you, I do see the sync initiation but they all send empy 204 responses:

In my downloads tab on the server the following still persists:

I've reinitiated this download a dozen time, with conversion, without. Sadly in all cases those specific episodes never get sent.

So I kept seeing these logs too,

I didn't think much of it as their info notifications. I also tried changing the max bitrate within the network tab, but it wouldn't go above 100k, and it didn't seem to help, as the info notification just changed to a higher media bitrate number.
Now within the app I saw the convert option per video and ran a few with the following options:
image.png.302db8e73a02611b77fa96867681e230.png

(ofcourse all old download jobs have been removed) I ran the download after the completion of the conversion and it downloaded the videos within no time.

So in conclusion

  • downloading with preset conversion fails
  • downloading original files fails
  • converting the failed downloads manually from the destination device followed by downloading works.

@darkshiftyDownloading with original and preset works just fine. I would suggest trying with the latest update to the app. Thanks.

EmbyOak

I just experienced this issue today with a friend's iPad.  It seems when two separate iPads are using the same account (husband and wife), one of them becomes the prime (I believe this is because the content was already downloaded to their iPad) and so the secondary one sees "waiting to download" but nothing downloads.

I created another account for the "secondary" user and sure enough I can now download the content without issues.

Same on iPhone too. I think the whole downloading system needs a do-over but might not be a priority.

This is definitely an issue for me. I try to download the original file, but it just sits there with a blue “Downloading” arrow and never does anything. Both my app and server are up to date.

This is exactly what I see in my server logs as well. Bunch of 200 and 204 responses.
