TVHeadend Stream Problems with HD Channels

Trying to watch live TV on a mobile browser on an android smartphone outside my local network.

The channel named ONE HD

The channel don't start playing.

The Channel named ServusTv HD starts playing but the playback is stuttering because emby direkt streams the channel.

The Channel Nitro SD starts to play but Beginns stuttering because emby direct streams the channel

As you see emby don't transcode these channels

If I want to watch some channels, with the emby for Android app, they're all get direct played by emby without transcoding. 

If I try to watch these channels with emby for Android TV, all channels playing nice and directly.

If I want to watch these channels with a Webbrowser on pc or smartphone  they won't start. It seems that some between emby and thv has a big problem. But I can't figure it out what's wrong. 

 

Maybe someone can upload some screenshots from a working tvh setup.

It's likely because you're running a low end Atom based system that really can't transcode that well and it's marginal at best keeping up with the stream.

So you will want to use Emby Apps vs browser when ever possible to avoid having to transcode.

As you see emby don't transcode these channels

Your ffmpeg logs tell the opposite. Both channels where transcoded. ServusTV because of to high (estimated) bitrate. Nitro because of not supported video codec.

Why don't you just lower the in-app bitrate or the server side maximum remote streaming bitrate? That will also force transcode your 720p channels and removes the stuttering that probably happens because of bandwidth limitations.

@cayars it does transcode hw accelerated, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Yes your right, good catch.. I was looking at the actual transcode taking place watching the speed drop quickly down to speed=1.09 when playback was quit.

But of course this is a real-time stream so that will happen (doh) as you can only process the stream as fast as you can retrieve it which is going to be 1.x speed. :)

It runs before. 6-8 streames works fine. HD and SD but suddenly it stopped working. I don't know why and I think it's just a settings thing. 

 

The in App Bitrate is automatically. Local playing runs at the Android app I can't watch Webbrowser or mobile Webbrowser. Because even on mobile network emby tries to direct play or direct stream instead of transcoding play.

 

Even when I lower the Bitrate all 720p channels plays directly.

now it looks like this.

Only WDR Köln HD playing with Opera Browser on my Smartphone outside my local network should use transcoding. But all devices except my Android TV using transcoding.

But the playback dont work If i change from 3 Mbit/s to auto bitrate. I dont get it 🙄

A couple of things I see:

Are you using the Emby TVHeadend plugin or is this a coincidence - TVHclient4xxxxxxxxxx-4.6.4.0 (HTSPv20)?

It looks like TVH is transcoding or at least trying to. I can't tell if those were tests so I would try to prevent transcoding by TVH and only allow the pass profile. Let the client applications handle the transcoding unless you have a special case which could be handled by a different user account in TVH. If you uncheck the profiles from the user account(s) it should then only use the default pass profile.

So you mean i should use only the default profil and the clients should tell the server for direct play or transcoding?

It looks like your settings for TVH have pass set as the default. 

Yes, you want Emby to get the stream in its original form and let it handle transcoding if needed based on the clients. Otherwise there's a chance of a stream being transcoded twice, once by TVH and then again by Emby. Adding overhead and degrading quality.

OK that suggests the app video player doesn't like something about the original video when it is streamed directly.
