Download of >7k songs to phone takes days, Emby regularly killed by iOS
Guest posted a topic in Apple iOS / macOS
Hi, my goal is to have my music available on my media server at home and synced to my iPhone 8 for offline access on the go. No movies, just music. So far, I used Plex for that but was unimpressed by their app's performance lately (UI hanging for multiple seconds) and direction of development (recommending my own music to myself). Therefore I got myself a month of Emby Premiere and tried the same use case. Downloading a single artist with 3 albums went smoothly as expected. Then I told Emby to download my entire library of 7284 songs to the phone. Well. I kept the screen on the entire evening yesterday and most of today morning. The task still sits at "Transferring 17.7%" and progresses very occasionally. At the same time, the phone's battery is drained very quickly and the Emby app is frequently killed by iOS. Symptoms: Music playing in Emby stops after a few minutes while the screen is off If I let the screen turn off with the Emby app open and unlock my phone again after a few minutes, it comes up with the home screen instead of the Emby app where I left off. It seems like something in the chain is unable to cope with the amount of files. I am aware that this is a non-trivial task, so can I help to improve the situation with some logs or so? The iPhone has ~150 GB of free storage. Wifi speed shouldn't be an issue - my Macbook reports at least 260 MB/s Tx rate at the location where my phone was most of the time. -
Morning guys, Emby for iOS was continuing to have an issue with pausing and resuming content on older iPads (I have both an iPad 3 and iPad 4 that it would happen on) for quite a while, but the app was still playing content fine as long as you fully backed out of the playback and then resumed that way rather than with the pause button. However, after updating Emby on my iPad 4 (which maxed out at iOS 10.3.3 for operating system and can't upgrade beyond that), attempting to play any type of video content (.mp4, .m4v, .mkv at least are the three I have consistently in my library) results in a start of the video for a second or two and then it pauses the playback on the screen. Tapping the play button on the screen at that point has the same resume glitch that has been there for a while. So, unfortunately, it seems version 1.9.7 is now stopping at the initial playback even, which has made the app unusable on older iPads. I'll send a server log and two ffmpeg transcode logs to @@Luke in a message so he can get them to any other developer that wants to see them, or I can forward them on additionally if anyone else lets me know they need them as well. -Roh

Hello, I find myself very often using the "swipe to the right from left screen edge" gesture to go back when using my phone. It is equivalent to pressing the "back" button in the upper left corner. The Emby app however doesn't seem to have this gesture implemented. That is quite inconvenient since the top-left corner is the most difficult spot on the screen to reach. (For right-handed people of course.) I'd consider this an accessibility bug - would you please consider fixing it?
