Server Beta 3.0.5131.18923 Released

This is an exciting server release that brings numerous new enhancements, including live tv to our web client and api. All of our app developers have committed to supporting live tv, so look forward to seeing it in all of your apps.

Live TV

We now support live tv through the use of a modular service provider system. You'll need to install a service provider plugin, and at launch we have one, ServerWMC. We'd like to thank krustyreturns for being a part of this.

A next pvr plugin is also in development, and we also have a few more on our wish list - Argus TV, DVBViewer and DVBLink. If you would like to get involved and help develop one of these plugins, please let us know.

So let's get down to live tv. You have the ability to view the guide, watch a channel, and full recording management capabilities. And the web client design is responsive so that you can use it on your smartphone to schedule a recording when you're not home.

Transcoding Engine Improvements

Perhaps just as exciting as live tv, we've made significant improvements to our transcoding service that will really help reduce server cpu usage. Everyone should thank Tikuf for all of the research that he's put into this. We couldn't have done it without him.

There are new configuration settings in the advanced area to fine tune this:

Please note that for now there is not a dramatic difference between these settings. As we continue to evolve and gather more data, we'll keep refining them.

Web Client Direct Streaming

The web client now has additional quality settings along with direct streaming options to allow you to play files directly without transcoding. This will allow some mp4's and m4v's to be direct streamed. Please note you will only see the option when we've determined the browser is capable of playing the file directly. The web client will also remember your quality setting, and apply it to all content played.

Other enhancements:

  • Web client view is remembered (e.g. poster, thumb, etc).
  • Added nifty new flyouts with quick access to commonly used functions
  • Support automatic de-interlacing when transcoding
  • To be consistent with metabrowser, movie plot keywords are now saved into a new PlotKeywords field. Tags are now intended to be user-defined only.
  • Added an advanced option to automatically restart the server when needed. It will only auto-restart once all users have idled for at least 30 minutes.

Defects Fixed:

  • Fixed pgs subtitles scaling incorrectly when transcoding
  • Fixed text subtitle delivery when transcoding
  • Fixed dvd runtime probing

Stay tuned for more. Great things are happening with Media Browser Theater. We've assembled a really strong team and there's several great enhancements in progress.

Linux and OS X server releases are getting closer. Please join us and be a part of the testing effort:

Just noticed the ratings for music/ songs in the web client are now gone (used to be to the right of play count). Sort of miss that, but assume it was deleted for a reason

What plays well in WMC Live tv is very very laggy in MBS live tv. i'll run some logs and see what i can find.

Great updates. Really like the Flyout Controls. As I was playing with Plex's new Web Interface a couple of days ago, I thought it would be great to have these in MediaBrowser as well. Now they are here.

Will have to play with the transcoding options. Don't have a setup for LiveTV but maybe in the near future.

Thanks.

Hi does this update take a while to download & then restart on the server/pc. As I have updated to it & it is restarting my server, however it has been hanging at the restart/reloading, at about the 3/4 way mark of loading for a while now just at the end of the numbers .18923 area... Do I need to just let this sit for a while to load or uninstall server & try to re install.

I just upgraded my MBS to 3.0.5131.18923.  The download and install seemed to work just fine.  However, now, when I load MBS it hangs before initializing.  The loading screen has been sitting there for 30+ minutes now.  Is there any way of reverting to the last release?

I really like what you have worked on and added.  Great ideas into action.  I love the auto server reboot when idle.  That will help me a great deal.  Ingenious stuff going on here!

This is awesome. It would be great if it would work with the MediaBrowser app.
