I just included a direct stream of The Accountant. Still the same issue :(

As devices Im using the Sony Xperia Z4 tablet and the Sony Xperia Z5 mobile phone. I dont think I could choose the app when I wanna play a movie from Emby?

My mobile phone has 6.0.1 Android and my tablet has 6.0 Android

@@Luke

How can I provide a sample? Just by editing a little bit of the movie?

Odd, both of those devices are more than capable of playing back stuff like this.  By app, I meant how you play the movie.  In a web browser (and which one), the Emby mobile app, or something else like VLC or Kodi?  The screenshots hinted that it's browser playback, but I'm not sure which browser you are using.

The latest log is a simple remux (video and audio are just copied as-is), so if that's not playing back properly, then it's likely that the web browser or app just isn't rendering properly.  I've seen similar behaviour with some Android web browsers before, but it wasn't worth the effort to look into at the time and it wasn't a big deal for what I was doing.  You can try another browser if you're using a browser for playback, or maybe the Emby app to see if the behaviour is the same.  The Emby app is limited to a short playback period if you haven't purchased it or don't have premiere, but it should be long enough to see if the same problem presents in the app as well.

Not really because in the android app we have some potential to do something about it by configuring the video player in different ways.

Web apps do not, therefore if it is really direct streaming the video then I'm not sure what we can do.

Yeah, may be the same underlying cause, but solving it is problematic as Luke indicated since there aren't really any options for altering what is being used for the playback or its configuration.  I tried searching some of Google's product forums and even some Android commits, but the results I keep getting are entirely unrelated or PC-centric.  Sadly, I don't know much about how Android handles video and don't know where to begin to look code-wise.  Unrelated note: Android seriously needs less friggin component codenames and object names that don't indicate what they do.

Kodi with Embycon or the Emby Android app may be good alternatives to try on Android devices for cases like this, since both at least offer some player/renderer options.

In my case, when my tablet updated to Android 7.1.1. it rectified the problem. Any chance of yours updating?

I helped a buddy of mine who said he videos looked like crap with he tried out Emby. (he uses Plex). I set the option to use external player setting in Emby on his Android Tablet. (dont recall what it was)

Vids plays fine with MX Player Pro now. (does have the custom codec option enabled so that AC3 audio will work)

There is only one browser that supports ac3, Edge.  So it is a matter of what client you are using.

Well.. I was referring to the Emby app and its external player support. not web browser.

That being said, I play vids with ac3 audio via Opera and Chrome just fine.

90% of my media library has AC3 audio

And Edge sucks in my experience.

Yes they play fine but without ac3.  html5test.com will show you supported formats

Irrelevant to the video color and quality issues the OP is having on his android tablet in the Emby app.

My suggestion is to enable the external player app option and see if his vids play fine with MX Player Pro.

If it does, then its something with Emby.

If does't its that weird issues with some devices.

for the record....Edge scores 492. Opera 520 on that html5test.com site.

I do see what u are talking about though on media codec tests .

Or something specific to the hardware or media being used or this would affect everyone.

I was also thinking of this but I thought there was no option to choose this. Where canni change the media player on my Android devices?
