So for example, Sci-Fi shows up three times:

- Sci-fi

- Sci-Fi

- Science Fiction

Emby needs to understand that "Science fiction" and "Sci-Fi" is the same, and also not to be case sensitive.

That is what the Genre Cleaner plugin does.

Great, gonna give it a try. Thanks.

EDIT: Aww..

"The trial period for this feature has expired

This plugin will require an active Emby Premiere subscription after the 14 day free trial."

The case-sensitivity is tricky because some of the file systems we support respect that.

You all make the mess and now we all purchase Emby Premiere subscription that is very disappointing

Who made a mess?  All we do is accept the data we are provided.

if the providers give us a bunch of different forms of genres, that is not our mess.

We do provide the ability to clean it up though.

You did the mess because you all could have easy solve the upper or lower case sensitive as we all know where the root problem is coming from is the 3rdparty metadata and user who enter in the info in the wrong syntax.

Weather it be Sci-fi or Sci-Fi or Science fiction it shouldn't be upper or lower case sensitive and in proper grouping as it should be under one genre = Science Fiction any way.

It was common issues with Music Player in old day to as well, surely Emby software dev can handling the capitalization inconsistent between Genre with out the need 3rdparty just like the Music Player do now day.

I believe we have better handling of casing now for newly added media, but I will test again, thanks.

Emby does not provide this information it reads this information from provided metadata.  There are options if you feel this information is not correct by going to the provider website and changing it.  And many would disagree that Science Fiction = Sci-Fi.  Sure Sci-Fi and sci-fi are but that is still a metadata issue that easily corrected

Genre cleaner is an awesome benefit of a premiere license.  Without it genres are a giant PITA and essentially unusable for me due to exactly the kind of source data issues that triggered this post.  I'm sure that there are people that need both Sci-Fi and Science Fiction genres but I'm certainly not one of them.  Don't get me started on Action, Adventure, and Action-Adventure!  LOL

Bulk edits like this I just use Notepad ++ and search every xml and replace with a couple clicks.

Did you not under my post I never said Emby I said 3rdparty metadata provided data but it user that input the data wrong on those web site in first place.

Then you better tell that to Wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_fiction and every other encyclopedia definition that they have this wrong when for min, min years now that the sf , sci-fi or scifi is shorting advert to Science Fiction.

But in the end it doesn't matter as this information comes from a Provider and has absolutely nothing to do with Emby.  Emby just reads the information provided.

And what appears in the genre field in metadata manager for one that shows in both places?

Okay but I can not reproduce this on any test machine I have.  It's a matter of finding why this is happening to you.
