    Overview: Shared storage and permissions

Shared-storage access combines a file-service path, accepted identity and the current availability of the remote tree.

A readable desktop share and a background server's view can differ in credentials, paths or permissions. A mount can also exist while its operations fail to complete. This area separates the network protocol, access decision and unavailable-source states involved in opening media remotely.

    • Network file access
Network file access uses protocol-specific identities and operations behind shared or mounted paths.

    • Access identities and permissions
Storage permissions evaluate the process identity, pathname and operation under the applicable filesystem or sharing rules.

    • Unavailable network mounts
An unavailable mount can be absent, present but unreachable, or replaced by another visible tree, and those states provide different library evidence.
