Overview: Names and discovery
Network names and discovery mechanisms help an application find the destination it needs to contact.
A configured hostname can be resolved through DNS, while discovery can obtain information through another protocol exchange. Those mechanisms have different scopes and dependencies. The two branches explain how an app learns about an Emby server before ordinary connection and authorization checks begin.
DNS and naming
DNS and hostname conventions connect service names and URLs with the addresses used in a particular network view.Service discovery
Service discovery exchanges information about available destinations within each protocol's defined scope.
