Emby guide data and lineup selection
Emby guide data supplies supported regional programme listings whose lineup selection, station mapping and loaded horizon determine the guide shown by the server.
Emby guide data supplies programme listings for the supported locations. Emby’s current setup documentation identifies the United States, Canada and United Kingdom and places guide configuration alongside source setup and channel mapping.
The guide service supplies descriptions and schedules. Your tuner or IPTV source supplies media. Choosing a guide does not add a television subscription or change what the source can acquire.
The region selects a station inventory
A provider lineup describes stations associated with a location or service. Two nearby inventories can share many familiar names while differing in local affiliates, regional feeds or additional stations.
Suppose a fictional source receives Harbour News and Hill News near a market boundary. A selected guide includes Harbour News but only the neighboring market’s Valley News.
| Source station | Selected guide result |
|---|---|
| Harbour News | Appropriate schedule available |
| Hill News | No corresponding station |
| Valley News | Guide station exists, but source does not receive it |
Downloading that guide again does not create Hill News’s absent schedule. Emby documents multiple guide configurations and manual station selection for cases where one inventory does not cover the received lineup.
A station with the same network brand can still have a different regional schedule. The match needs the intended station/feed, not merely a recognizable logo or channel number.
The channel association is the last join
Emby attempts automatic matches and permits selecting the guide provider and station manually. Channel mapping develops the identity relationship.
A complete provider inventory can therefore coexist with an incorrectly displayed guide if the source was matched to another station. Conversely, a correctly mapped station can have incomplete entries in the supplied data.
Separating those cases gives a more useful question than “Is the guide broken?”: is the desired station absent, is its association wrong, or are its supplied programmes incomplete?
Loaded days and fresh revisions are different
Emby’s DVR settings include a loaded-guide horizon. Its current documentation describes an automatic choice based on channel count as well as a configurable number of days.
A longer horizon exposes more future entries only where they are available. It increases the amount of schedule data the server handles; it does not make the provider publish later days or resolve recent changes more quickly.
Freshness asks when the displayed schedule last incorporated a relevant revision. Coverage asks which stations and time intervals it contains. These can change independently.
For a programme moved from 20:00 to 20:15, extending the guide by another week does not by itself correct tonight’s stale start. The updated event must reach the provider, be loaded and be used by the relevant recording plan. Schedule changes follows that sequence.
