    Overview: Portable GPU processing

Portable GPU interfaces offer programmable processing or defined video operations under their own resource contracts.

OpenCL and general Vulkan processing are distinct from Vulkan Video's codec-operation interfaces. Each route needs suitable resources, picture representations and synchronization. Comparing them starts with the work required, rather than assuming one portable API exposes every fixed-function media engine.

    • OpenCL for media processing
OpenCL runs programmable work on supported compute devices through contexts, memory objects and command queues, with explicit capability and completion relationships for picture processing.

    • Vulkan for media processing
Vulkan exposes device queues, image resources and programmable processing whose formats, synchronization and ownership determine how pictures move through a compatible media pipeline.

    • Vulkan Video
Vulkan Video exposes supported codec operations through video profiles, queue capabilities, session resources and codec-specific picture parameters.
