My Movie posters all changed!

90% or more of my Movie Posters changed to the same one, I have been having to go in and change each one manually, I have nearly 3,000 Movies, why they all did not change I have no clue, but over 90% of them are the same poster, I try to refresh Metadata and they don't change, has anyone else ever had this happen or know of a fix without having to go in change each one.

Hi, if you go into each movie are the movies identified correctly or all they all the same movie?

What does your file system look like?  Do you have each movie in it's own folder?

Everything is in it's own folder, and for over a year now, things have worked perfect, nothing had changed, then all of a sudden, I open up Emby 1 day and this has happened.  When I set things up, I followed the Proper Emby suggestions of settings up Folders,  and that is how things have been and then they just changed.

All Movies have their correct name and the Movies themselves did not change, only about 90-95% of the Movie Posters changed, why all did not I have no idea, just some at random did not change, they seem to have nothing in common for the ones that did not change.

Do you store your metadata with the movie files?  Meaning, is there a poster.jpg/folder.jpg file in each movie folder?

Posted

Yes it looks like I do.

each Movie folder has a poster file and several others in with the Movie.

That is very strange then.  In that scenario the only thing that should cause images to be replaced by Emby would be someone refreshing the metadata for a library and choosing the 'replace all images' option.  That doesn't address the question of how you could end up with the same poster for everything but it's the first requirement.

If Emby ran that metadata refresh it should be logged.

If it wasn't Emby, are you possibly running any other media management tools?  Perhaps third-party NFO creation tools or tools to automatically rename/move media files into the folders in your Emby libraries?  Screw ups in those kinds of tools could also cause this.

That has to be the problem then, I have a program on my Computer calle EMDB Eric's Movie Data base, but I've used it for 6 months or more now with no problems, but it did a big update the other day and now that I'm thinking about it, that's when this issue started, somehow that program must have changed my posters.     I just tested it out and when I change 1 Movie Poster by searching within the program you can update 1 Movie and it's poster and it finds it then changes it, but then it changes almost all of them within the app, I cut it off from accessing my hard drives, it needed to do that to update changes in my Movie Folders.

Since it appears that this program is the cause of the problem, why won't my emby Movie Posters update and change back to the originals and replace that same post that they all have when I refresh everything?   It seems to be that it should work, but it does not change any of them, I am having to go in an update and change every poster manually.

So are you say a Refresh all w/replace images or Refresh Scan for missing w/replace images is not working in Emby?

I will test it out again right now and see what happens.

Ok, so I went into settings and rescanned my entire Library, then I went in an opened 1 Movie and went to metadata and hit refresh everything, then I refreshed my browser and no changes, I went back in, and I checked the line or box/Folder directly under the refresh Metadata line and checked it, then I hit refresh everything again, then refreshed the browser and this time it changed the poster to the correct one.

But it only changes it when I check the Folder/line underneath the refresh line.

Problem is I still have to do this for every single Movie, is there any option to refresh all of my Movies at the same time.

You should be able to do this at Library level as the only different is it does the entire library vs a item.  If it is not working the please post the server log.

But Refreshing can be a issue if done to quickly as Emby Cache will be used.  You could delete the provider cache folders in your cache folder.  Path shown on Dashboard.

I deleted the provider cache folders and now when open a Movie and hit refresh metadata and doing a refresh on it all, and checking that folder below it, it is now, no longer changer the movie poster as it did before deleting the cache, so now i have to back to editing the image and then deleting the one that does not belong and search and add the correct one manually.

I see the logs folder, but there are 3 or 4 text logs in it, which one do I use and how to I post them, do i copy the file, or the contents and paste in here or what?

Without logs it is impossible to day but can not reproduce the behavior you are describing.  The current server log is embyserver.txt.

But it is easy to do a blanket search of any library and delete all folder/poster images via your platform explorer and have Emby do a search for missing on that library.

Ok, what you said to do, search and delete all folder/poster images via platform explorer, I don't know what that means or where or what I would go to and click on to do it, could you explain it more where to find that option.  and I have attached the log.

If in Windows open file manager and go to the parent folder of your movies.  Now type right in the search box type *.jpg and give it time to search through all folders for the jpg files.  You will get a list of these.  CTRL-A will highlight them all and DEL key will kill them.  Repeat for other graphic types like *.png & *.gif

Ok, thank you, I've now done that, where is the option to replace or refresh and update all metadata at the same time, I know how to go into 1 movie and do it, but I can't find the option to do it for all of the Movies.

Home Screen on each library or multi-select all libraries.

librarya.thumb.jpg.5f918066362721318b12262bdd22a670.jpg

Or the same per library Refresh option from Dashboard-Library

Thank you,

That all worked I really appreciate the help.

I keep an emby file with all of my emby info in it, and I'm adding all of this info, so I won't ever forget again and if anyone else ever needs help I will now know how to offer it.

I can't thank you all enough.

Glad you got your issue fixed.  Thanks for the update.

Hi. This has absolutely nothing to do with the issue described in this thread but I needed to ask Happy2Play how they display the libraries with the many movie pictures. Mine display with 4 but that is just too cool.

Those are static custom assign image, would have to look and see if the psd is still in the Fan Art & Videos section.
