Where do you get that?

What happens when you use Chrome and access your URL?

That's what happens. It's a browser error, not an Emby error or a CloudFlare error or an NGINX error.

It's just a standard connection failure in the Emby app when connecting remotely.

WANIP works.

Chrome throws an DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN error, specifically.

That error message usually means the IP can't be looked up for the domain properly.

Can you PM me your domain name and FQDM used for Emby?

Yeah, apparently I don't own that domain anymore, but I can have it for $10 instead of the $0 I was paying for it previously.

WTF?

Grab it :)

After registering the domain you will likely have to setup DNS records again or change the DNS servers if using Cloudflares.

Why would I pay for it when I was previously getting it free? From a company that yanked it from me with no warning and then jacked the price?

Just to show how ridiculous it is, it was a .tk domain and they want $10 a year for it. They're offering the .com for under $9.

Bait and switch.  Often you get the use of the domain for 30 to 90 days as they want you to use it so you have to purchase it from them. :)  They bank on the fact more people will register the domain than not or it would cost them money.

If you don't like that domain then get one you like but keep in mind you will also have to get a new cert, convert it to the format needed, set this up in (Emby, nginx and Cloudflare). Then of course anyone using your server will have to change as well and also reset options for your "new server".

Reset options?

I only have three remote users at the moment. I'd rather get the hell away from Freenom's scammy bullshit. No idea what the alternatives are though.

Free would be preferable even if it is something janky, as long as I get to keep it.

They never bothered to tell me it was expiring either. I've had no communication from them.

If it were me I'd use a well established domain reseller such as GoDaddy or Namecheap assuming they have the extension you want.

Pay for the domain, so it's yours for a year (minimum) and you always get the ability to renew it vs someone else owning the domain instead of you.
But of course the choice is yours.

But keep in mind if you change the domain, you got some reconfiguring to do all around.

I've heard awful things about GoDaddy. Not familiar with Namecheap.

I had the Freenom .tk domain for well over a year, and even renewed it at least once. They just didn't bother to tell me this time and jacked the price on it, which is bullshit.

So many places that'll give you a super cheap first year with the domain and then want an arm and a leg afterwards though. "$1/year (for the first year, $40/year thereafter)" and so on.

You can by .an ovh domain at ovh.com. (very cheap and popular in Europe) 1.99 € first year, after that 2.99 €. I don't know if it's available on your area. You can try www.ovh.com.

OVH is a major ISP (Domains, Web hosting, VPS, dedicated servers...) in Europe that has its own domain extension.

  1. Add domain to CloudFlare
  2. Set the A record pointing to your server
  3. Get your new certificate, remember you need pfx
  4. Set up the new certificate in Emby
  5. Set up the new certificate in Nginx and domain
  6. Remember to restart Emby and Nginx

Well, you don't need to setup Emby, because Nginx is connected to Emby using http:/127.0.0.1:8096

Yeah,  I put all the new pem/pfx/key files exactly where the old ones were, so it should be pretty simple, in theory.

But I'm getting 1020 "Access denied" errors from CloudFlare.

Never mind, I was an idiot and was blocking connections from Australia in the firewall. All working now.
