Vicpa 611 Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Hi all, I just noticed this the other day. I have TV genres showing in the web UI that don't contain any content. Below is an example the "General" genre. I don't have any content with the "General" genre or at least I don't think so. Can I get rid of these. I would not expect them to show if they are empty. Thanks -vicpa
Happy2Play 9783 Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Pretty sure you will have to correct this is the database itself. I don't see any empty genres and if I change items genre so genre no longer exists, the genre disappears.
speechles 2055 Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Does that genre appear in MUSIC or MOVIES? Does it have content in that section? That might be what this is. 1
Happy2Play 9783 Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 True, if you did a search and opened that genre does anything appear, since search will remove parentid? But either way they still should not appear as I have different genres in each content type that do not crossover.
speechles 2055 Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 (edited) @Happy2Play The "Mixed" libraries will cause this in the DB. Then after it is done. You cannot undo what was done. You have to change Mixed to the proper library type. Rescan entire library after to correct. Edited July 11, 2021 by speechles

But I can not make genre in my Mixed content libraries appear anywhere else besides that library, ie restricted to that parentid. Even added custom genres that do not crossover at all. So I would think there is a database issue in this instance for vicpa. Edited July 11, 2021 by Happy2Play

The lingering effects are the Genre thing. Once all items with the Genre are removed a full library scan (using schedule task) should remove the genre. It will do it at the end of the scan. You have to wait for 100%. Edited July 11, 2021 by speechles

But assume legacy database related as these test systems get databases rebuilts fairly often.
Vicpa 611 Posted July 11, 2021 Author Posted July 11, 2021 Hi, "General" does not appear as a genre in any other library type. I rebuilt my library with the 4.6 release. So is practically brand new, so shouldn't be a legacy thing.
GrimReaper 4762 Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Before you resort to db editing, you could use Genre Cleaner plugin and map it to some existing genre, see whether it'll remove it from the tabs.

Yes, that may work. But still does not answer why "empty genres" are shown at all. It is just a TV thing it seems. For instance a have several different "Movies" libraries and not all actual genres are present in all the libraries yet the never show up as empty. If I search for "general" just the empty folder shows up under results. -vicpa
Happy2Play 9783 Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Only other thing I can suggest would be adding that genre to a item, then removing that genre from that item to see if it clears the empty genre. 1
