New Plugin: Smart Playlists 2.0

As reported by others, I am having issues getting my playlists to populate. I have several playlists that have the same parameters, save for file locations. (They are music playlists by decade set to update daily). No matter what parameters I set, two of them refuse to populate any content, despite copying the settings from the others. Using Emby 4.8.8.0 and plugin version 2.5.5.0. These are some pretty basic parameters. Any advice?

I'm certainly no expert with Smart Playlist, but I wonder if the issue is with Path?  If your files are all tagged correctly, you shouldn't need that.  Here's my 1960s Music playlist:

Checking the Path(s) for all the Decades sounds like a good idea. Another method for a 60s decade playlist could be to use the following two Rules:

I haven't been having any problems with this method (so far - fingers crossed).

Thank you for the help, both of you. I tried your suggestions and nothing would work. So I just ended up creating new ones with a different name under your parameters. I'll se ehow that goes! They did populate, but mine did originally and then just stopped. Thank you so much!

I can't remember where it was reported but I think there is an ongoing issue with certain types of limited length playlists, especially those that are cleared and repopulated as a scheduled task (e.g. shuffle, newly added etc)

In @PuffyToesToo's example I would suggest removing the 50 limit and setting the daily sort function to shuffle instead.

looking for this mythical 2.5.5.0 release.........all i can find is 2.5.0.4810 where is this download. I've been all over this thread.......

Just upgraded to 4.8.8.4 and smartplaylists 2.5.0.4810 which I think is the latest (I had to search through the posts to find it, is there a better way?).

Anyway a number of my playlists are empty, I need to investigate those. I also have an sql error in one and they all have problem with some button images, I'm on a Mac using the latest Monterey.

I can't seem to access the plugin settings. When I go to configure, it's just a blank screen. Anyone else have this issue?

I think this could be the recent known issue that is resolved by refreshing your browser. Have you tried this after going into the plug-in?

Same thing happening for me, the smart playlist log shows it completed, but the emby log shows smart playlist errors:

Hi, stay tuned. Smart playlists will be one of the focal points of the Emby Server 4.9 release, so this feature will ultimately be built in.

I'm using emby 4.8.8.0 and smartplaylists 2.5.0.0.

I sometimes get this but I just hit the F5 key. @ShanePcommented on it but I don't think there was a fix.

With SmartPlaylists coming to core I don't think Shane will be interested....

Will the initial release have feature parity with the current version of the plugin?
eg

• creating not just playlists but also collections,
• rollup to seasons and tv shows

I've tried using the plugin purely for movie playlists but looking at the logs it's only getting back series so no matches - I'm assuming this is similar issues to what everyone else is getting?

It's not available in beta yet. But will be coming soon

Ok, my issue is that the current version of the smartplaylist is hardcoded to return only 'Episode' in UserItemsProvider.

Gone back to version 2.5.0.4810 and it's now working.

Please don’t forget to fix the search with dots instead of spaces (won’t show up as you know), so we can use the smart playlists to include content by name without any problems.

Lets wait what is actually delivered.   History suggests that 'core' functional replacements while usually better integrated, lack the full functionality that the plugin originally provided... (Introskip erherrrmm..) 

I hope it matches what Smart Playlists 2.0 can do - but what I'm really waiting for (and have been for years..) is the ability to create virtual libraries from these playlists and display as 'rows' on the main screen.   

imo Only then do they start to become really useful to present dynamic content as the users themselves can customise what they see.  ie the concept of Spotlight/Recommendations/Top Picks etc becomes a reality.
