GhostRider 49 Posted July 10, 2021 Posted July 10, 2021 Hi I have upgraded to Emby version 4.6.3. I added a new movie and after the scan it was automatically added into the correct collection. However, the collection config file in the collections folder under appdata was not updated. I am keen to understand where the collections information is stored as I used to backup the collections folder. Where is the collection information now stored and what do I need to backup? I also keen to go back to manually maintaining which movies are in which collection how do I stop movies automatically being added to collections?
Carlo 4561 Posted July 10, 2021 Posted July 10, 2021 Hi, Collections are now database managed vs xml based. So if you backup your library.db you got collections covered!

Disable the option per library and you will be responsible for adding to or creating collections. Import collection information from metadata downloaders When enabled, this will import collection information from your enabled metadata downloaders. This may cause unwanted collections to be automatically created. Disabling will prevent future collections from being automatically created, but will not delete existing ones. Now all items that already have <set> node will always be presented as a collection item.
GhostRider 49 Posted July 11, 2021 Author Posted July 11, 2021 Thanks for all the replies, I thought I had it all sorted, but I looked at Movies Library it already has "Import collection information" unchecked. So I am puzzled as to why my new movie was automatically added into the existing collection. The collection already had two movies the new movie made it three. Any suggestions?
rodainas 191 Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 (edited) If you use nfos and they have the set tag collections will be created, everytime you scan those nfos, if not using nfos or if just have nfo saver option enabled then just delete that particular movie collection and it shouldn’t be regenerated if you have the option to create collections disabled on library settings. GhostRider 49 Posted July 11, 2021 Author Posted July 11, 2021 Thanks what I am after is stopping Emby Server automtically creating collections and stopping it automatically adding new movies into existing collections. I am after managing collections separately as I want to decide which collections exist. Is this doable in the latest version of Emby?
rodainas 191 Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 (edited) It depends on how you manage metadata. If emby reads from nfos and/or write to nfo files, you have to manage which movies have the set tag, and remove when you dont want certain movies added to a certain collections. If emby reads metadata from providers and then write to nfos here you have the option to avoid in absolute form the creation of collections disabling the library option or leave enabled and just manually remove collections from the webui Only if you manage your nfos separately from emby, you need to modify them directly manually or with 3rd party app. If emby reads metadata just from online providers without using/writing nfos then just delete collections or movies from collections within emby webui for example. (here you have the option to avoid in absolute form the creation of collections disabling the library option) After that you can always create your collections manually from webui.
