Brad Bedwell 9 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) Interesting Video with some exciting stuff from Google later this year. http://youtu.be/y3dCUPeyhag Edited August 27, 2014 by Brad Bedwell 1
Luke 42077 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 yea it has a nice UI and a rich feature set at a low price. it's just going to dominate.
Deihmos 169 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) What happened to Google TV? This is something I really want, one device that can do it all but I need cable TV. For now I have an htpc and the roku but one low powered device would be great. Edited August 27, 2014 by Deihmos
Brad Bedwell 9 Posted August 27, 2014 Author Posted August 27, 2014 Google TV got scrapped. They started over and are re-branding it Android TV. They have been working with silicondust for use with the HDHomeRun variants for Live TV.
Luke 42077 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 This has to be demoralizing for Microsoft. You spend 5+ years building Xbox One. You tell everyone the device is worth $500 because it will control your whole living room with voice, live tv, online services, games, etc. And then Android TV comes along and matches every single feature at 1/4th the price. What do you do at that point. (Yes with less powerful games, but good enough for many and will have all the games from the play store). 1
Deihmos 169 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 There are so many platforms.. I am not sure how developers keep up. Smarts TVs, amazon fire, roku, android TV, apple TV and the list goes on. Silicondust has an app in the android store. Doubtful that you will be able to record or pause live TV.

Deihmos 169 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 well then i guess you didn't watch the video he linked to. Too long. I saw some TV but didn't see recording.
Redshirt 1487 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I like the fact that Android TV's will act as cast receivers.
fantaxp7 191 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I like the partnership with silicon dust. I can't wait to see what sort of support there will be for live tv.
ebr 16169 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Yeah, wow. That's what a smart TV should look like...

I think your spot on there however that is the mistake that microsoft has continually made with its products. This just shows that these sort of products dont require an huge price tag and because of that, they will sell in huge numbers. Personally, I dont think it will be too long before this sort of device becomes the main way in which people access media rather than cable/satellite subscriptions.
flexage 125 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Ditto, @@Redshirt gotta get the Andriod MB3 App on this
Redshirt 1487 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 If anyone wants to send an ADT-1 my way I won't complain
Macburp 112 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 If anyone wants to send an ADT-1 my way I won't complain You should be in the front of the queue for one
Jasin 11 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 If anyone wants to send an ADT-1 my way I won't complain I don't know if you can do it anymore but people were able to fill out a form with what they were working on and Google was sending free dev kits. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
JohnnyBe 0 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I'm really looking forward to the release of Android TV! Have they already announced the date? With Fire TV now started in the UK and Germany Google has to bring it before Christmas.
fantaxp7 191 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I don't think there is. I am anxiously awaiting for it to be released!
JohnnyBe 0 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 hm okay :/ hopefully after the upcoming Apple event Google is coming up with some teasers or a date for Android TV.
Jasin 11 Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 If anyone wants to send an ADT-1 my way I won't complain https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/contact/adt_request Forgot to give you the page. Full this out if you haven't. Worth a shot.
ebr 16169 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 We applied but I highly doubt we'll get one.
Luke 42077 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 which is only because we were too late. it doesn't really matter as the sdk is available and the devices will be too soon enough.
MrWebsmith 598 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 http://www.engadget.com/2014/10/15/google-nexus-player/ looks like the first of these is getting finalized outside the adt-1 dev box... so 99$ price point is nice even if itll likely have the gen1 first-adopter issues 2
