What is the correct Way to use Tags for parental Control ? Is my thinking wrong ?

I have never managed to get this to work. My thought on how this works is:

On the server, as admin :

Select  a user. Go to the "PARENTAL CONTROL" settings, click the + by "Restrict items with tags" and type ABCD. Set the restriction mode to "Allow only only items with these tags" and click on SAVE. ABCD .

Next, I pick an album in the music library and click on the 3 dots in the bottom right corner. Click on "Edit Metadata", scroll down to TAGS, click on the + and enter ABDC. Click save Now when I look at the song listing for that album, I see ABCD now showing under under the TAGS at the bottom of the track list

The trouble is the selected used now can't see ANY albums  at all.  Totally blank for MUSIC, FILMS and TV SHOWS.

Once I remove the Tag Restriction for the user, all is fine (so the Tag is doing something).

Am i wrong in thinking the  "Restricted items with tags"  should only show albums, films, tv shows with the ABCD tag on them ? Or is the system not connecting the Tags as being the same ?

I am testing this (as the user) on the Andriod App on my phone if that makes any difference .

Sometimes you have to save multiple times... and make sure the user you are updating is the user you log in as when testing .. I just did this ... I am using the Beta version but should still work for you.... my issues is once you do "Allow only these tags" it removes the ability to see the Recordings which is my issue

Just done a quick test and I think the the tagging only works on FILMS and TV SHOWS. But does not work on MUSIC.

So if i set user parental setting to only show tagged items. I tagged a Film, a TV Series and an Album .

The film and TV are fine and show up 😃 but the Music library is blank ....🤬

Yes depending on structure, Folder access restrictions work.

As for Tags,Tracks do not inherit tags from virtual Album as the enbedded track metadata reading is from track to build Album and Artist views.  So you have to tag virtual Album and Tracks to get to work in Parental controls.

Now from Folder view you could tag a folder to show the content of said folder but the majority of other tabs will not work.  The Suggestions tab will/should and Folders tab will.

@Lukedoes that sound correct?

Yes, I have just discovered this . I tagged the folder and the album popped up, but the Artists page stayed blank.

Then i tagged an album and then one of the tracks a sure enough the album pops up but with just the one track track. So Tagging is not really suitable for Music.

I suspect for Music I will have to set up a separate folder my this user and put their music in it and then set up a separate music library for them just pointing to this folder. Then my music library can access both folders (Mine and theirs)

You would setup a folder outside your current music folder and add this new folder to the current music library and then restrict the user access to this newly added folder.
