I think this would be a nice feature to have. Maybe something similar to how windows media player handles this and the admin user can edit just by clicking on stars next to song. This would be easier and faster than having to go into metadata and change for every song you want to rate. This can be useful for smart playlists. If ten stars is too much then use five and have half a star counts as 1.

Hi.  You are suggesting the ability for your users to rate these?

I think that if the users can rate they should have their own rating. I Currently use my community rating to make smart playlists, so i would not like them to change my ratings. Maybe make it so that just the admin can change only in the web app, but make it visible to everyone. Or make it that everyone can make their own separate ratings.  It would also be nice to see those stars to make it easier to find popular songs. It would make it easier after an album is added to click on the stars to rate, rather than having to go into meta for every song.

If everyone has their own rating, you would not see "popular" songs.  You would only see your own ratings.

There are already requests for user-based ratings on items.  We actually used to have this but found it was so little used that we removed it.

Can we at least have the option to show the rating. This would make it easier to find songs. It can be an option to turn on or off as people see fit.

Also what's the point of being able to rate music if there is no way to see rating

Hi, where would you like to see it that it's currently not displayed in?

Does Music show this information anywhere?

In his first post, there is a screenshot, showing the placement being next to the time.

Albums, yes. Songs, no.

Currently there is no way to view the community rating in music. There may be for albums, but none if you rate just songs.

The picture that i put in the first post was just an idea. If it would fit better somewhere else that's great. But currently there is no way to see what is even rated. you would have to click dozens of times and scroll down in the meta to see rating of every song in an album.

But you can see the heart (favorite) status, right?

Yes but that does nothing for the community rating. I don't favorite songs, I rate them and use smart playlist. The same songs may be in multiple playlists. Also if you could see the stars, it would make it easier for people looking for songs to find them.  I use my music throughout my home and I have a touchscreen set up outside for party's. Did you ever go to an artist and say to yourself (What was the name of that dam song). Having rated that one song, and having the rating show would be extremely helpful.

This in combination with smart playlists +++

Hi, I recently bought emby premiere and am very happy with the software. This would improve the functionality for music streaming enormously.

Like I posted in my own request. I like the rating idea but not community ratings but ratings for songs based on the users ratings. I have a ton of albums and have them rated for a long time. In fact before windows had flac support. Although on some apps like Foobar 2000 they go from 0-100 for their ratings. Windows and Media Monkey do 0-5 stars. Just need to use the media info plugin to scrape the ratings. Then you can do 1 star for 20 and 5 stars for 100.

Hi again, have you looked at the Community Rating field in the Metadata Editor to see what you can currently do with it? I don't use it myself (yet) but it could be worth investigating?

You can rate Artists and Albums and Songs from a scale of 0 to 10 in steps of 0.1, effectively giving you 100 increments - or just go with 1-5 stars, depending on what you want. I'm not sure how the community aspect works, but if you are the only one using the ratings, then the community rating essentially is your user rating. The field also appears to be lockable. You can sort the Songs by this rating and Albums as well.

I know this won't automatically import your ratings from elsewhere - but may be something to experiment with to see if any benefit for you???

Yeah, I was looking into the community rating tag thanks. I tried making a tag with add a tag, either way would take a while to finish doing by whole collection. Will probably wait till smart playlist is updated to see how that goes. Or use your other recommendation of MP3Tag and ROONTRACKTAGs. Right now, I will just update my 5Star playlist every time i add to the collection.

This would be the way I'd be trying (when decide you want to do it). It's very quick to bulk edit, once you get your files into Mp3tag, especially if you already have the ratings embedded as another field/tag to copy across to ROONTRACKTAG. If you need any tips - just ask...

Anyway - you've now got me using Community Ratings for my own mini-project...!!!

Thanks!!!! And cool at least I have someone to ask questions about ROONTRACKTAG, and good luck with your project. Not sure which I want to do right away. ROONTRACKTAG seems the way to go. Community ratings would take me months probably. They just need the metadata plugins to scrape the music files ratings and just maybe use that to make the community ratings for music or just another tag specifically for music. Making playlists with Media Monkey and adding them to smart playlist is the easiest for now.

One more thought - I haven't used Media Monkey for a long time, but you may(???) be able to create a ROONTRACKTAG field in Media Monkey and easily copy over your ratings, thus bypassing the need to use Mp3tag at all.

Anyway, as long as you have a method that works for you at the moment - then everything is good!!!

I will look into that. Did not even think of that. Thanks
