Collections re-appearing all the time

This re-appers every time I get rid of it. You can't even delete it.

So I have to go here and delete the Collections folder.

Then it either disappears or then I get the option to delete it. But it came back three times already and I prefer that it would stop doing that.

Here are my plugins.

That would mean your media items have a <set> tag in their metadata.  So you need to look at the items that are creating the collections.

Also do you have the "Import collection information from metadata downloaders" option disabled per library?

But once a item has the <set> tag it will always create a collection no matter what.

No I don't have it on

but thanks for the info about the metadata I will have a closer look.

Ideally deleting the Collection in the UI should remove the <set> tag from the item.  But can be a tedious process if you have a lot of collections created.

But the .nfo metadata files created by Emby do not create the <set> tag? I am using https://themoviedb.org to fetch the data.

You would have to go over an example of a item that created a Collection and show or post the nfo for that item.

example for my Ice Age movie, it contains <set> so Ice Ace Collection is made.

<set>Ice Age Collection</set>

This is sort of the quirk with using this method as there is no true way to disable as this same node is used for Custom Collections so it has to always be honored.

Hi.  If you just want to hide that library, you should be able to do that via user access.

Was the nfo created a long time ago?

In this year. But it might have been attached with the file. I changed the nfo files and removed the set tag. I'll see if it re-appears again.

So another collection folder appeared, I deleted every single .nfo file for media that appeared in the collections folder. I assumed it would re-download the metadata without the <set> tag but my assumption was  incorrect because just now the folder appeared again with almost exactly the same collections... so to me it seems like emby downloaded metadata  with collections in them, which for me is an unwanted behavior.
And yes I have this off.

It is not about the nfo in the collections folder it is about the nfo with each movie.  And deleting them will not clear what is already in the database.  So Media has to be removed, library scan to remove items from database, the nfo for the items that make up the collection need to have there nfo cleared of set node or deleted completely, then re-added to Emby.

Or manually delete each collection via the UI.

I will not pretend I understand anything there but deleting them using the UI will fix it?
Also it re-appeared again, cuz some deletes error out  and I need to re-attach the mount.

It's such a pain. I mean... isn't it kind of bad practice to have behavior depend on data?

Assuming Emby has the ability to update the item nfo files creating the Collection, yes.  Otherwise you will have to manually update your nfo files for the items that are making the Collection/s.

Well to many wanted collections to not be dependent on path so they did not have to manually update the previous collection.xml every time they relocated/moved media.  So being dependent on item metadata is the solution to that problem.  You can move your media where ever you like and still maintain the Collection it is part of.

Depends. If you have nfo files with genres that you've manually edited, you would expect those to be used, right? So the same goes for collections.

Okay I finally managed to get rid of all of it. So far so good. No new collections.

For the love of god. It keeps re-appearing. I've deleted it so many times. I dunno what triggers it? Maybe rescans?

Why don't you just turn this off?

If you do that you won't have a Collections menu item on your home screen.  They will still show up in the collections tab in your movies library but if you don't click or access it then you won't see collections.

Yeah, I am not okay with just hiding problems.

The issue persisted so I found the "Collections" folder in Emby's files, deleted its insides and made it read-only.

HI, have you checked your nfo files to see if they contain the collections?

Only way this can happen is if item metadata has the information to create them.  But do you have an example we can look at, providing content of movie nfo files that are making the Collection.

At some stage, I manually went through all NFOs that appeared in collections and checked/removed collections.

Can you please go over a specific example? Thanks.
