VivaDandy 0 Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 Hi, I started having an issue with some of my video files. Most of the files are ".mkv" files with ASS subtitles attached to them. A few months ago, I purchased the lifetime Emby subscription and most of these files subtitles stopped appearing. I don't think they're related, but I wanted to mention it. I can confirm that the subtitles were working before and all my subtitle settings, to the best of my understanding of them, are set so that they should appear. I don't want to have to resort to burning the subtitles into the files if it can be avoided, but I'd like to enjoy the videos with subtitles. Thanks!
RanmaCanada 495 Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 What device are you playing them back on? They will also require some logs so they can try to pinpoint what is going on.
ebr 16184 Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 Hi. I assure you that Premiere and this issue are unrelated. Can we please look at an example?
VivaDandy 0 Posted June 28, 2021 Author Posted June 28, 2021 The device that I seem to have issues playing it with subtitles is on any of the television apps. I believe it also doesn't show the subtitles on either of the console apps/browsers. On Google Chrome, everything works out. One of the files in question's information provided in the screenshot. If you need something more specific let me know I'm not sure what you'd need.
RanmaCanada 495 Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Roku? Fire TV? Android TV? Apple TV? Kodi? The devs will need server logs, ffmpeg logs from when you try to play these files and they fail. No issues here with my Roku TV, or my Android TV.
Luke 42079 Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 @VivaDandy, yes can we please look at an example using the information requested here? Thanks !
VivaDandy 0 Posted July 1, 2021 Author Posted July 1, 2021 Sorry for the late reply, it took me a while to find what I think you were looking for. If you can not get to your Log folder you can download then via Dashboard-Logs then attach the files here.
VivaDandy 0 Posted July 1, 2021 Author Posted July 1, 2021 Okay, thanks. What about this time? ffmpeg-transcode-ace2aad9-3bc0-47aa-8dba-1ceb608b0d57_1.txt
Happy2Play 9781 Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 (edited) Yes, devs will have to look at this but this doesn't look quite right to me with the path. VivaDandy 0 Posted July 1, 2021 Author Posted July 1, 2021 RanmaCanada mentioned ffmpeg logs and this was the only one I saw when I went to the logs page under advanced. I don't really know much about the technical side of Emby I mainly just use it.
Luke 42079 Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 @VivaDandy are you still having this issue with emby server 4.6.4?
VivaDandy 0 Posted July 9, 2021 Author Posted July 9, 2021 I believe so, I just let one of the files run that I knew had the issue and I noticed that the subtitles did start after a minute from the beginning. They caught up in a manner of seconds to where they should.
Luke 42079 Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 @VivaDandy are you sure you're on 4.6.4? Your most recent log file says 4.6.3. Also have you updated to a newer version of the Emby Samsung app? That may help as well.
Bigmack3000 107 Posted August 29, 2021 Posted August 29, 2021 I'm getting the same issue. No ASS subtitles popping up on my shield. Logs attached. embyserver (2).txt ffmpeg-transcode-d8c01798-638d-4fde-a7cd-205f66181406_1.txt

Can you please show us the media in question and explain exactly what is happening? 8 hours ago, Bigmack3000 said: on my shield That log is from web playback. Are you having the problem there too?
Bigmack3000 107 Posted August 29, 2021 Posted August 29, 2021 (edited) Do you mean this? The video and audio play fine, but the subtitles just never show up even though they are selected. However, this show plays them with no problem at all. The first show uses a different font, and it looks like it has a shaded backdrop to the words. Could that be the issue? I think I've attached the correct logs this time. embyserver (1).txt ffmpeg-transcode-d8a69f5d-0f2a-45c3-977d-3ea66570f550_1.txt Edited August 29, 2021 by Bigmack3000
ebr 16184 Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Hi. It looks like the server is trying to burn in those subs. I suppose it could be related to the font.
Bigmack3000 107 Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Is it trying that for both shows? or just the one? Is there a way to change the font?
RanmaCanada 495 Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Well your Cowboy Bebop is Hi-10P, which the server may be trying to direct play, as it does not know how to handle this codec. Nothing will play Hi-10P in hardware and it is also what a previous user was having problems with in regards to subs. I would suggest you dump your Cowboy Bebop for a non Hi-10P encode. I would recommend 981203 as it's the only version that is not edited, and is as close to the original broadcast version as possible. 1 1
Bigmack3000 107 Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Thank you. This makes a lot of sense. I'll look out for that version, but I'll also try re-encoding this one to see if that helps.
RanmaCanada 495 Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 If you're going to re-encode it, I would recommend HEVC 10bit with Opus audio. It will shrink it down in size, but keep the same quality. I personally do anime at around CRF 18-19 with HEVC.
