External Album Art for Individual Tracks?

Now that Emby supports per-track album art, can I take advantage of this without actually embedding album art in my music files?

I'd like to start adding art to some of my non-album tracks, which are all in a massive folder together.

Is there a naming convention for art stored next to the tracks? Or can one be added in the future?

I tried naming the cover the same as the track, but it was ignored.

Hi, you would want to embed the art right into the tracks themselves with a tool such as mp3tag.

To my knowledge no, you have one image that covers the entire album.

  cover.ext
  default.ext
Art clearart.ext
Backdrop backdrop.ext, backdropX.ext
  fanart.ext, fanart-X.ext
  background.ext, background-X.ext
  art.ext, art-X.ext
  extrafanart (subfolder)/fanartX.ext
Banner banner.ext
Disc disc.ext
  cdart.ext
Logo logo.ext
Thumb thumb.ext

That's what I suspected.

I tried adding art to a single track through the UI, and it didn't save the art anywhere externally. It did work, but I can't back it up or share it with friends that way.

I don't necessarily object to embedding art for individual tracks/singles. It's just a nuisance having to reconfigure my tagger each time.

I'm not sure I care enough about art for singles to retag my existing collection, I was just thinking I'd flesh it out a bit if external files worked.

Perhaps, one day?

They're correct, not currently supported for audio files, but possible for the future.
