New Libraries not working

Recommended Posts

Posted

I'm going to preface this with this statement: All of my currenty libraries work just fine, this is not an issue with how my files are sorted and / or named.

Now to the problem. I'm trying to create a library of TV shows for my kids. I've attached a file showing some of the additions. Now anything that is in H:\Kids Shows appears just fine in "Shows" but if I attempt to pick a specific show for them nothing appears under "shows" but does appear under "folders". I'm really hoping I'm not going to be told this is expected behavior...

Content type is set properly, and all these shows appear in my other normal libraries.

Hi, You don't want to map to the actual show folder but to the parent folder.  So for example you map to:

H:\Kids Shows
I:\TV Series I
I:\TV Series II
I:\TV Series IV
I:\TV Series VI
etc

In theory just adding I:\ should work but I would restructure getting rid of all the TV Series numbers folders unless needed for a specific reason.

So that's the only way to do this? I really don't want to reorganize everything but I guess if I have no other choice.... Seems silly to restrict it to top level folders though, no?

Library folders can not be the Series/Show folder it should be the folder that contains the Series/Show.

Why would anyone want to point to every Series folder?  I would never apply over 500 folder to setup a TV library, one maybe two to cover all media makes more since to me.

You should just add "I:\" then as your folder to cover them all, but that would be dependent on what other content you have on "I:\".

But by you making the Series the parent folder you break Emby and now the content is somewhat unknown as your season folder could become the series/show.

Why? Well I have over a few hundred shows, not all are child friendly So I want to control what the kids see. I'm not adding the drive letter as that would give access to things that are inappropriate for a 7 year old. So I:\ works and I:\TV Series1 works but I:\TV Series1\Loki does not work.

Looks like I got my answer unfortunately. Thanks for the info everyone, appreciate it.

Blocking by tags or parental controls would be easier.

Tried that first, ratings are pretty useless I've found. Two things can be rated the same and one may be appropriate (IE Marvel releases) and another rated the same could have a bunch of nudity and harsher language than I'd like to have them watching now (IE: Game of Thrones)

This would have been the easier route had it worked.

Then you apply a Custom Rating on the items that is not appropriate to you.  All Custom Rating supersede actual rating.

And for TV shows, the custom rating is inherited, so you can set it at the show level, and not have to set it for each episode.

That'll definitely work, possibly a stupid question but where do I config custom ratings? I see some preconfigured ones but no option to add my own, config file somewhere that needs to be edited?

You use the Metadata Manager for that movie/show.

I believe the custom rating field is right after the official rating field.

You should see it right below the Parental Rating.

Yup, I see it. Not seeing an option to add more entries though. I'm probably missing something obvious, it's been a hell of a day.

What do you mean add more entries?  Say this show is inappropriate you apply a higher custom rating to remove it from the child's view or you can lower ratings to make them appear in child's view.

Yeah when I read "custom rating" I took it literally, thinking I could customize it. I added a rating to all the shows I want the kids to be able to see and it worked perfectly.

All the help is appreciated, I'm all fixed up now. Thanks everyone.
