Chapter Thumbnails (.bif) not recognised for STRM files ?

Hi,

I note that chapter thumbnails (.bif files) are not being read for STRM files - but other metadata such as NFO and JPG/PNG are.

I don't believe these are generated for STRM files (which makes sense) but if they are generated elsewhere and copied in the folder - can they be used - as the empty chapter boxes look ugly.

Thanks.

I've really only used strm files for things external so I haven't tried this but a quick test would be to try the bif in two locations.

First would be next to the strm file.
Second would be next to the actual media file.

This would sort of be like how srt files work but I've not tested it.

If they are present then it would be nice to use them, yes. I think this is something that just has never been looked at before.

Probably not to useful for true external content but could be useful for people using strm with crossover episodes where the bif file likely already exists.

Exactly this - emby reads the other local metadata just fine - nfo (meaning you get all the metadata + cast etc), poster & background art and even any .srt files - you just don't get the chapter thumbnails from the .bif which is a shame.

I'm working on a 'Recommendation' utility which all my family & users are very excited about - but the blank chapters spoil the look of it a little (they functionally work ok).

I think we may all have to twist Luke's arm a bit for this to get added.  LOL
Like he said, it really just never came up before.

strm files are the easiest way of linking to content through an ipfs gateway.  from a bit of poking around, the .bif detection is the only missing piece.  (though It seems like emby may not actually write metadata into a directory which contains only a strm file, but if that is the case then temporarily renaming it to "foo.mp4", scanning, and then returning the extension to ".strm" does work)
no amount of hoodoo gets it to acknowledge the presence of .bif files, but if it did, emby would essentially be ipfs-compatible out of the box, in the presence of a local gateway.  please prioritize!
