jonomite 29 Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 I am experiencing some odd behavior with TV episodes not displaying properly in Continue Watching. The issue began as follows: I would watch, for example, Episode 3 from Season 6 of a show, but Continue Watching would not display that episode. Instead, a seemingly random episode from the same series would display instead. It has now gotten to the point where I am not seeing TV episodes appearing in Continue Watching at all. I don't have an issue with the media playing at all. I only seem to experience this issue with my TV library. I have tried doing a library scan and refreshing metadata for the TV series, to no avail. I've attached a log, which captures the second part of the issue I described above - TV episodes no longer appearing in Continue Watching. embyserver.txt
jonomite 29 Posted June 7, 2021 Author Posted June 7, 2021 Update: So, this is interesting. Clicking on the check mark to mark an episode as watched in Continue Watching causes the next episode that I had started to watch but did not initially appear in Continue Watching to now appear. It occupies the same position in Continue Watching as the TV Episode that I just marked as watched. It's almost as though there's a long line of "Continue Watching" TV episodes waiting to display, but Emby is only displaying them one at a time, and only if I mark the currently displayed episode as watched.
Carlo 4561 Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Hi, what clients are you using when doing this? If not a browser, if you compare the that client to web do they show the same order in Continue?
jonomite 29 Posted June 8, 2021 Author Posted June 8, 2021 It appears to be happening with all clients.
Carlo 4561 Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 I'd like to try and reproduce this if possible. Could you show a couple of screen picks from the web app showing this? Basically enough info for me to try and reproduce? Would be greatly appreciated!
jonomite 29 Posted June 8, 2021 Author Posted June 8, 2021 (edited) I'm pretty sure I'm experiencing it with all clients. The issue is that TV episodes are simply not displaying in my Continue Watching feed, so I don't know how helpful screenshots will be. What would be most helpful for you in the screenshots? Carlo 4561 Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 This actually sound more like you have a lot of unfinished TV Episodes not cleared in Continue Watching. Do this show up in Next Up (Legacy) row correctly?
jonomite 29 Posted June 9, 2021 Author Posted June 9, 2021 I was seeing episodes showing up in Next Up (Legacy). Is there a limit as to how many unfinished TV episodes there can be before Continue Watching starts to glitch? In any event, I went ahead and marked my entire TV library as watched, and then marked it as unwatched. Will keep an eye on this to see if that solved the problem.
Carlo 4561 Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 OK yes, please let us know how you make out moving forward.
jonomite 29 Posted June 9, 2021 Author Posted June 9, 2021 Unfortunately, the problem has reappeared. I'm frankly tempted to just delete the library and re-create it. Does that seem too drastic?
Luke 42079 Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 What are you expecting to see that isn't there, and why?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 Possibly screenshots of the issue you are seeing.
jonomite 29 Posted June 10, 2021 Author Posted June 10, 2021 The basic problem is that TV episodes that I have begun watching but not finished are not displaying properly in my Continue Watching feed. Specifically, in progress TV episodes will either (1) not appear at all in my Continue Watching feed; (2) the wrong episode appears (e.g., I am playing S2E14 but S5E11 displays in the Continue Watching feed); or (3) the TV Episodes will display in the first, and only the first, slot in Continue Watching (e.g., S3E01 is in progress and displays in Continue Watching; then, I start watching S3E02. After I stop watching S3E02 it displays in Continue Watching where S3E01 previously showed up, and S3E01 is no longer anywhere to be found). Here's an example of the third (3) item I described above happening. You can see that S2E1 of X-Files is in progress. I then stop S2E1, start playing S4E1 of the X-files, click into the middle of the episode to ensure that it is in progress, and return to my home screen. You can see below that S4E1 now displays, but S2E1 is nowhere to be found. I next started playing TV episodes from an entirely different TV show. They are not even appearing in Continue Watching at all, so this is the first (1) issue I described above. I cannot take a screenshot of an episode not appearing in my Continue Watching, but I believe this behavior is captured in the log I provided in my first post.
kbeck 64 Posted June 10, 2021 Posted June 10, 2021 I have an idea. Leave it alone. A separate Continue and Next Up was perfectly fine the way it was. 1

That is why Next Up Legacy what left as a option. So you have the previous view of both Rows. But there is going to be these issue in a combined view as you have a bunch of partially watched episodes and it will only display one from a Series.
jonomite 29 Posted June 10, 2021 Author Posted June 10, 2021 Hmmm. So, it sounds like I'm actually experiencing normal behavior then? If so, I apologize for creating the confusion. This is just very different from how TV episodes displayed in Continue Watching previously. So, can someone please just clarify for me, is this indeed expected behavior? Is it normal that I won't see TV episodes display in Continue Watching when there is already another in-progress episode for the same series?
Solution Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 10, 2021 Solution Posted June 10, 2021 When there is more then one Continue Watching item for a series yes as the new combined row will only track one item for a series it you want them all then you need to display both rows.

Yes, this. Does that make sense now?
jonomite 29 Posted June 10, 2021 Author Posted June 10, 2021 It does. Thank you for the clarification, and I apologize for making much ado about nothing. Need to read those changelogs more closely! 1
jonomite 29 Posted June 11, 2021 Author Posted June 11, 2021 Okay. I'm back with one more question. Since Continue Watching will now only display one episode from a TV show, is there a way to ensure it displays the last played episode? In other words, if I start S2E3, stop that while in progress, and then start watching S5E6 and stop that while in progress, currently, I will only see S2E3 appear in Continue Watching. Is there a way I can see S5E6 since it was the last episode I was watching?
Carlo 4561 Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 What you describe is what I would expect to happen as well. IMHO continue row should always show the most recently watch media.
ciisubstance 4 Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 (edited) Seems to work as expected now Edited September 10, 2021 by ciisubstance Appears separating continue watching and legacy up next behaves as expected

IMHO continue row should always show the most recently watch media. Hi, I'm on version 4.7.1.0 on a Western Digital EX2 Ultra and "continue watching" it's not showing the last episode I'd watched but one on the first season I've left incomplete. When I marked as played it shows the next I left incompleted and so on. Any way to sort "continue watching" by date and not by episode?
damichab 2 Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 I have a similar problem (previously reported) where the next due to play episode is just not on the 'Next' list at all and if you go into that series and select "Next episode" it will play some randomly selected episode (always the same episode for that series, no matter how many are watched). Not all series, just some - most series work just fine. Thinking it was a profile problem, I deleted my profile and created another one and the same series as before had the same problems. Then checking other family member profiles (should have done that first!) also had the same problems with the same series. To get around this, for the affected series, I just go into them and select the specific episode I wish to watch.
