Issue Playing File Unless You Transcode to 1mb/s, Help?

Hi,

I stream on my 4K Firestick, plays most files but currently having issues with a MKV file with vorbis audio.

The screen stays black with the spinning circle. The only way to get the file to play is to manually reduce quality to 1mb/s and then press 'playback correction'.

Is there any reason why the file won't natively play? I've tested the files on Emby Threatre and plays fine on the PC.

I've pressed the 'send logs' option through if somebody can take a look for me.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, could you provide a file we could use for testing with a firestick?

Sure definitely, please let me know where to transfer this file? It is around 200-300mb.

Hi.  There are several errors in your app log.  At first there is a network problem connecting to the server/media and then the server is throwing a 500 error trying to read the item.  Do you have the server log from when you sent the app log?

Also, you are still on server version 4.5.4 so you may want to consider upgrading to 4.6.2.

Thanks, unfortunately this is not my own server so I cannot get the logs. Is there anywhere I can send a file for you to test?

Dropbox or Google drive, etc. and then give us the link.

Thanks.

Headers in the file are corrupt.  However a simple remux fixes this right up and allows it to play properly.

Many a tool can be used to fix this up but I did the following:

ffmpeg -i "Dragon.Ball.Z.S03E17.SDTV.x264-(DBNL).mkv" -c copy "Dragon.Ball.Z.S03E17.SDTV.x264-(DBNL).mp4"

Hope that helps!

Thanks I appreciate you looking into this, as it is not my server and there are around 500 episodes like this, would there be any way for emby to auto transcode it in future releases. I know this is probably asking much but just wondering :)

The admin could use the convert function in Emby but I think media issues should really be fix outside of Emby.  The command line I showed above could be scripted easily and took about 20 to 30 seconds if that to remux that file.

Hi, it's tricky because we have to be able to detect that the problem is there to begin with.
