4.6.2.0 kills my playlists

4.6.2.0 on win 10 kills the Playlists for me.

I see the playlists, it is also telling me how much hours of playtime but songs are not showing up so clicking on play or random play results in just a loading circle.

This happens in the browser as well on the emby samsung tv app and the android app on the phone so it must be the server.

Anyone else can reproduce this?

thanks

Hi, How were these playlists created?

They where created directly in emby with the add to playlist function but it was  4.5.0 i think, when i created them. but worked on the 4.6.1 update with the new music library settings. Just since the latest version 4.6.2 the songs don't show up

If you create a playlist in 4.6.2 does it play correctly?

Yep, I can repro this also, only playlist that survived was a video one. Seeing same as Painkiller, no songs listed but I can see a total runtime. Created a test playlist just now, no issue there. I also tried editing an existing playlist unfortunately and it appears to have deleted the remnants of the old playlist (runtime has reset) and it now only contains the newly added song.

yes new added playlists are working.

But i have a lot of songs in my existing playlists and don't wanna recreate them all. Would be nice if we could get existing playlists to work again.

Hi there, did you try running a full library scan of all libraries?

Not on this update but on the last one.

I will try to run a scan again

No, a library scan didn't solve the problem. The scan was pretty fast as there was no new music. I also rescanned the playlists library a few times but all of my playlists don't show the songs

I was able to fix it on my own now.

A rescan of the library didn't change anything but doing a metadata rescan fixed it for 2 of my 3 playlists.

The 3rd one was still empty so i remembered i use the backup tool and so i restored a backup of only the playlists from 5 days ago and did a metadata scan again after restoring the backup and restarting the emby server.

Now all 3 Playlists are there with songs.

Perfect, glad you got it working.

I am experiencing this same problem. I'm not sure I'm doing the metadata rescan correctly, and I have no idea what the backup tool is that the above user is referring to.

I have multiple music playlists, several containing hundreds to thousands of songs. None of them are showing any content presently.

Some of those are mp3u playlists that I had originally created in Plex, and have added to with Emby over the past 2-3 years. Those were still showing up after the update, though without any content.

Some other playlists I created in Emby. Those were not showing up at all after the update. I did manage to get them to appear again by selecting "Refresh Metadata" on the Playlists dropdown under My Media.

If there is a known way to correct this problem, a step-by-step guide would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, hover your mouse over the library name in your home screen and you will see a 3 dot menu appear.  Click on it and then choose the metadata refresh.
You should be able to just search for missing meta-data and don't need to overwrite graphics.

Let us know how you make out doing this.

@Wavecrest

Apologies for the disruption, but as the previous user pointed out, i think there is a good chance that refreshing the metadata on the playlist will bring the items back.

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !

Hi, thanks for the instruction. Per my prior post, I had already tried doing that. Just tried again.

Unfortunately I am still having the same problem with the m3u8 playlists that I had imported from Plex. (The ones that I created in Emby are working fine now.) No tracks are appearing under those m3u8 playlists.

Below are three images, showing, in order:

  1.  The error I'm getting when I try to open and play one of those playlists;
  2.  The location of the those m3u8 files in my filesystem; and
  3.  My Emby library settings showing that location selected as my music folder.

What else can I try please? Would it be a terrible idea to cut & paste those m3u8 files into the folder where the Emby-created .xml playlists live? That seems to be C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\data\playlists.

Can you show us what one of these m3u looks like?

Sure, here's one of the files.Pineal.m3u8

It was working fine in Emby a week ago. And this still plays for me in Winamp.

I am guessing Emby has no idea what those partial paths are to each of those tracks.

Full Path to track needs to appear for each track just like it does in the Emby xml playlist file.

Without specific path then playlists break as you already see.

If that were the problem, why would the same playlist files still work in Winamp? And why did they work in Emby last week?

Any suggestions as to how I might go about fixing the problem?

Luke will have to comment, but I am pretty sure playlists have always had to have full path or be next to the files (same folder).  In this case since the media is in multiple different folders full path is required.

Just like if you were to make that same playlist in Emby the xml file would have the full path to the items.

There is no way really to compare how one programs treats the m3u vs Emby.

All items are in the database by full path so "Avett Bros\Four Thieves Gone\09 - The Avett Brothers - Matrimony - 2006.mp3" will not equal true path "D:\Data\Entertainment\Sound\Albums\Avett Bros\Four Thieves Gone\09 - The Avett Brothers - Matrimony - 2006.mp3".

They are.

No the playlist is in Albums and all the media is in there own subfolder ie not next to physical media.

Okay, well like I said it was working like this last week. Guess we'll just have to wait for Luke for guidance, unless you know of an easy way for a not-very-technically apt user to batch convert 8000+ playlist entries to their full file path names.

Just as a test, could you try editing one or two of the playlists to use full paths just to see what would happen?

Move the playlist out of the lib, scan the library, move the playlist back and scan again.  Then let's see if they play correctly.

Do you know of a easy, automated way to do that? The shortest one of these playlists has 95 entries. The longest has 3000 or so. If that is the only solution, I'll probably end up using a different platform.

Still confused why Emby would have been okay with these exact playlists last week but not this week if the problem is on my end.
