paulduffy 2 Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 Since the upgrade on 5/24/21. I am having problems playing recorded shows. It often freezes during playback. When this happens, I hit the "forward 10 seconds" control and it starts to play again, but it freezes again in a few minutes. Sometimes, I try to play a recorded show and all I get is a blank screen - nothing happens, no matter how long I wait. I looked through the support area and was not able to find any help.

I was not sure which ones you need/want, so I included everything from watching last evening. The last couple should show the time when I could not get playback to work. paulduffy 2 Posted May 28, 2021 Author Posted May 28, 2021 Hi Luke Yes. TS seems to be the only type of file in my "Recorded TV" folders. I tried an experiment......I open Windows Explorer and opened my Recorded TV folder for one of the shows that would not play in Emby. I double clicked the TS file for the show and it played. The TS file type is associated with the Windows 10 "Movies & TV" program. I hope this helps. Thanks.

During playback, the video freezes and will not respond to the pause/play buttons. The only thing that seems to work is to click on the "forward 10 seconds" button, then the video plays.

paulduffy 2 Posted June 3, 2021 Author Posted June 3, 2021 Looking at the sever admin screen, the server is version 4.6.1.0. I just noticed a message just below the server name that says I need to restart the server to finish applying updates. Should I go ahead and do this now? I do not understand what the "client" is.....sorry. When I am watching TV or playing a video, Emby is running within Microsoft Edge, which is the default browser on my PC. Emby is installed entirely on the PC in my living room, connected to my TV. So, does this mean the client is Edge? Thanks.

paulduffy 2 Posted June 4, 2021 Author Posted June 4, 2021 Hi. I restarted Emby Server in order to complete the update. The version is now 4.6.2.0. When playing a movie last night, there were a few occasions when the playback would stop and I had to click on the "forward 10 seconds" button to get it to play again. The videos that previously would not play seem to be playing now, however there is still one video that will not play in Emby..... I will do more testing this evening. Should I be using something different for the client? Just thought I'd ask.... Thanks.
Carlo 4561 Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 For the sake of this thread it's likely best to test using just the one client to keep things easy to understand but technically any/all Emby clients should be able to play all your media but them may play differently (direct play, stream or transcode).
paulduffy 2 Posted June 6, 2021 Author Posted June 6, 2021 Hi - Here is an update. After completing the update to 4.6.2.0, I have recorded a few shows on 6/4/21. When I try to play these back, I get mixed results. Some of them will play with no problem, and others will not play in Emby. I am not sure what to do next. Thanks.

When I play back a TV show, I click on the icon for the show and a screen opens up showing the first frame of the video and a description of the episode. There are a few "buttons" that can be clicked and one of these is "play". I click on "play" and the video is played. Would it help if I created some screen shots of these steps? How do I tell what "client" is being used? Is the client Microsoft Edge? That does not exactly make sense to me.....it seems that there must be a video player program somewhere in the mix. Thanks.
Carlo 4561 Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 Chrome, Edge, Firefox would all be browser clients or what we typically call Web Clients vs Android TV, Roku, Theater, etc. So that answers that question. A few screen shots wouldn't hurt. If you could click on the cog icon during playback if available and click on stats for nerds option (if possible).

In this screen, I click on "Play" and get Fail Screenshot playing - shows what I get when the video recording will not play Fail Screenshot stats_for_nerds - is what shows up on this screen when I click on the gear wheel and select stats for nerds.... Playing Screenshot stats_for_nerds - I was able to play a different recording. When this recording was playing, I selected stats for nerds and get this screen. Frozen Screenshot - after a few minutes, the playback froze and I got this screen. I click on the "advance 10 seconds" button and then the playback resumes. This happened several times during the playback of this movie. I hope this helps explain what I am seeing and what is happening...... Thanks. Paul
cjkbarnett 1 Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 (edited) Have you tried marking the season or whatever you're watching as played, then marking it as unplayed and then attempting to watch it? paulduffy 2 Posted June 9, 2021 Author Posted June 9, 2021 Hi All of the problem files are TS files. I have a HD Homerun Prime tuner. There does not seem to be any pattern to which files do or do not work. For example, in season 7 of Hawaii Five O, episodes 5, 6 and 7 would not play from within Emby, but episode 8 would play correctly. Similar results with other shows and movies. I did not have any of these issues prior to the latest update. All of my headaches have happened since the update to 4.6.1.0 and 4.6.2.0. Thanks 1

I try to sign in and then get this screen: do you want me to "Add Server"? If I click on this option, I get: and I am not sure what to do......
