Absolutely NOT.

What Emby 4.6 will do is actually respect properly the tag information in the music tracks which didn't always happen in 4.5

Can you read my question again?

I asked about textual album information.

So let me see if I got this straight:

By updating to the new 4.6 version every Emby user will lose all album music information no matter what he does.

Is that correct?

This is the question I was answering.  Let me expand my answer.

No EVERY EMBY USER will not lose all their album information. If all the info was tagged in the music files the person will be fine.

If however a person made changes previously via meta-data edits vs tagged info then FOR NOW that information is lost.
Luke has said he will bring back reading NFO information so once that has been added back in we can see how this will work and what info can be read from the NFO.  We won't know this until it hits beta. Care needs to be given so there is not a conflict of information between the NFO and track info.

Is that a better answer?

Please consider the concept that what you call "album" information stored on a track by means of its tags is, in fact, just information about what album that track belongs to. It's not really album information.

So currently all album (not track) information will be lost when updating to 4.6.

Emby will not read any existing information about the album. It won't read neither the information stored in it's own database nor from .NFO files. That includes album tags and textual information.

I would suggest informing this very cleary to all users. I would not update if I had this information.

I am looking forward to hear news from the .NFO reader. Really need it.

With 4.6 you are starting over with Music so there is no database information and yes as Luke already said currently album.nfo files are not read.  So we have to wait for it to be reenabled again or allow a online provider to populate it.

Any updates on this? I keep trying to save custom album descriptions to the .nfo files Emby creates, but I don't understand the point of Emby creating those files if it does not then read them.

Related, do any other server apps read album.nfo, like Plex of Jellyfin?

What type of music tags?  (there are many)  I currently use DBPoweramp for ripping and tagging and I'm pretty sure you can add custom tags to Flac and vorbis tags. As a matter of fact you can easily import from NFO's in the tag editor in Windows....

I know there are other options for editing tags as well.

Which is the last version that supports NFO read? I need it to have sync my local libraries, I just pull my best media in order to play offline.

If I copy an artist folder it doesn't read any artist.nfo or album.nfo. I just PM you.
