Music Playlists do not show the artists name

When I open a music playlist through emby or through kodi, the artists name is not shown/ marked as unknown even though the songs play fine

When you look at the metadata for each song in a playlist, the title and album fields are filled out but artist is not. and even more interesting if i manualy add the artist name for the metadata, the song gets removed from the playlist.

All data is there when i open the song directly by say playing the album, just not in the playlist

 

any thoughs??

I had this issue as well.  I only had 3 small playlists so I just re-made them and it's fine now.

Did the issue start after updating to 4.6?  That's what seemed to do it for me.  I'm assuming all of the Music scanning/database changes may play a role in some disconnect between the old playlist and the newly scanned library.

I'm seeing this too and it wasn't an issue in beta. 

@cayarsCan you investigate? Any idea why the artist names aren't showing in playlists? I'm using m3u playlists, and my library has been scanned multiple times.

I just tried creating a playlist using Emby "add to playlist" in .51 and this is what I get

New playlists are good, it's the existing ones after the update that were messed up for me.  Don't have examples anymore since I re-made mine.

15, but that's all of them. I'm probably going to just delete the music library and start over. Maybe the MusicBrainz issues caused this problem and others. Although, I had trouble in beta with other metadata loading issues too and always had to just delete the library and start over.

You mean the m3u playlist right?

Do you also have an XML file at the following location on your system?

C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\data\playlists

(you'll need to change the path to match your system)

No, because it's an m3u playlist. Emby doesn't create a new playlist for m3u's, it just uses the m3u.

Got ya. I never looked to see if the xml file was created or not.

So just curious, but what happens if you move that m3u file out of the lib, do a scan, remove the playlist. (so removing all traces of the playlist).
Than add the m3u file back and scan again?

Just wondering if it creates the playlist under 4.6 if you have the artists show up.

PS that's a nice playlist of many of my favorite songs.

It'll probably work if I take it out and put it back in the library, but it won't create an xml.

Yea, thinking about it, there is no need for the XML file as it's all contained in the m3u and that would just be confusing at best.

Me? No, but I've not really used m3u playlists for music so I'm not a good source for this.
I am curious if doing what I mentioned earlier would work however.

It's ANY playlist that has the issue. I was the only user in this thread using m3us.

I had an pre 4.6 playlist that was created in Emby. Songs all from The Cure only. I had to move one of the albums that songs are from out of my music library because of a 4.6 scanning issue, and that took those songs off of my playlist. I could add them back, but they were not saving right as I couldn't reorder anything and have it stick.

I remade a new playlist in Emby with adding everything in order how I wanted, after that I reorder a few and it did stick. So old playlists don't work right in 4.6 xml's all of them.

The other thing is, those songs on the playlist from the album I removed from Emby and put back, they show The Cure in the playlist, none of the other songs do. This is the new list.

Here's a screenshot of Emby Theater with my new playlist, a quick marker to brown paper placeholder image I made, but see the name of the band is only on songs from Head on the Door, all of the albums have Full Metadata from files, and Musicbrainz Id's and audiodb ... so I don't know what is different except for that drastic remove all my Music and then start all over again.

 

My music is perfectly organized and blah, blah, blah I want all the metadata from online so I can jazz up everything inside emby with pics and logos and stuff easily. It's a pain that some stuff doesn't have much in those online providers, so I have to do those manually, I know, but for so much of my music is taking days so far to get it just partially done it's a pain, when I could easily have my artists and album matched to online stuff before 4.6 and now .... whatever. Blah.

So I Have both an existing xml playlist made in emby that was upgraded and other M3u playlists that also came along for the ride. i have also removed and re scanned the m3u playlist folder.Also attempted adding new m3u playlists and also created new xml playlists inside of emby.

All of these attempts result in the same outcome, no artist names

Well the values come from the existing track in your library, not from the contents of the xml or m3u.

So looking at that screenshot, your track is not tagged with artists or album artists so that explains it. If you haven't been through a full library scan since updating the server, then please let that finish first. 

If you have then I would check the information embedded into the audio files.

Well I went and removed my main music library and then added it back .... such a better thing!

Just a little more work to add in the artwork for a few obscure things, mostly it automatically got everything I wanted AND the artists show up in playlists now too.

All the old playlists are still in emby but don't show up and frankly I have no problem recreating what I need to.

The main thing is though, there is no PLAYLIST library now. I can get to it from the server library area, but not from any other spot. I can also add something to an old playlist and it comes back to the MUSIC area playlist tab but only has what was just put on, nothing older, except the previous thumbnail pics. They stay. Weird but it's something I'm not concerned about, I'm going to wipe it all out and start over.

I had a few tv and movie playlists, they are still there in my Movie library since I didn't remove those libraries. FWIW

@LukeMine are all tagged, and the artists still don't show up. I'm sure I'll have to delete the library to fix it, but we shouldn't have to do that.
