rblackhaw 3 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 4.6.0.50 updated two days ago and I've been getting multiple "Scan media library failed" alerts as well as "User activity notification failed", "Configuration backup failed", and a "Trim db failed" alerts. I'm unable to add new content since the scans aren't working. The Activity section has stopped showing users online or disconnected and is no longer showing playing or finished content. I have rebooted my pc and restarted Emby but nothing has changed. embyserver.txt

This usually means you have two instances of Emby running against the same database. With Emby shutdown how many library.db files do you see in C:\Users\Berd\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\data? Does taskmanager still show Emby still running?
rblackhaw 3 Posted May 22, 2021 Author Posted May 22, 2021 Emby was showing twice in taskmanager before shutting down Emby. Once after shutting down. I ended that one and restarted Emby. The library scan worked and it seems to be working now. Thanks for your help!

thekingswolf 48 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 this is happening to me now as well, same database lock. I have rebooted and restarted. I do not have 2 instances of emby in task manager. I see embytray and EmbyServer. I do not have a service setup, and Run server at start in the dashboard settings is how I have always loaded Emby. embyserver.txt
Carlo 4561 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Try turning that option off and restarting the system. Did Emby get loaded and if so how many versions are running now? It's possible you have Emby set to run another way.
thekingswolf 48 Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 I turned it off and restarted and no emby loaded at all. I manually opened it and the scan worked. I turned it back on, rebooted, and it's been working since. no idea what happened. 1

Rebooting because you think it is stuck can sometimes make it worse. I would monitor the log vs restarting.
Luke 42078 Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 If you're going to shutdown the server then do it gracefully by using the buttons in the web interface or tray icon. If you just kill the process then you're going to increase the chances of data corruption and you basically end up having to start this all over.
thekingswolf 48 Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 i tried using the buttons but it wasn't functioning so I had to reboot the machine. Thanks all for the responses, any idea why this happened? I assume it's something with the latest update, seems like some others having this happen as well.

Typical causes are mentioned in the help topic that was linked to. happy2play is right though. It looks like you're misinterpreting a scan that is taking a long time as stuck and then trying to fix something that isn't actually having a problem, and then that's what causes this.

That log looks this the "Z:\Anime\Shows" library is being processed. example 2021-05-24 13:51:09.579 Info MediaProbeManager: ProcessRun 'ffprobe' Execute: C:\Users\tkw\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system\ffprobe.exe -i file:"Z:\Anime\Shows\One Piece\One Piece - S13E32 Luffy's Hard Trial! thekingswolf 48 Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 I understand rebooting during the scan is not advisable. I was more referencing what cause me to have to do this to begin with. The article you posted states: Quote Typical causes of this are sudden and abrupt terminations of the Emby server process, such as a power loss, operating system crash, force killing the server process, etc. But I had not experienced any of these concerns before hand to cause this to begin with, and due to the multiple posts of others having this same issue since the new update, I assumed it was related.
