BlueMax1916 3 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 Hi, after reading the 4.6 version news about music folders I congratulate the developers to provide the possibility to use local fanart and metadata. I just have one question reagarding my use case. I have my music library set up with path names to shares like this: //192.168.1.9//Music Within 'Music' I always had sorted my music like /genre/artist/album/songtitle(s).mp3 Artist metadata provided by 'artist.nfo'. Example: All music files (MP3 or FLAC) are tagged correctly. Metadata for album provided by 'album.nfo'. Example: If I select 'Perfectly organized in folder for artist/album, with tracks in album folder' in Music Library setup. Will Emby Server pick up everything (fanart and metadata) correctly? Cheers Blue Max
Luke 42083 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 Hi, it will pick up the images, yes. We don't yet read the album nfo, but we will be adding that in the near future. Thanks. 1
Carlo 4561 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 It should but I believe it's going to always use embedded info first before falling back to folder graphics. Can you confirm that @Luke?
BlueMax1916 3 Posted May 21, 2021 Author Posted May 21, 2021 Hi, thanks for the answers. I noticed that it does not pick up album.nfo and if it is coming in the future this is fine for me. I just wondered if the additional 'genre' subfolders would cause troubles. folder.jpg and cover.jpg are the same as the embedded cover art. So this is fine for me also. I just want to have my media collections as versatile as possible. Therefore I have for example cover.jpg/folder.jpg and backdrop.jpg/fanart.jpg. I once made the switch from MediaPortal 2 to Kodi/Emby combo and it was helpful to have it that way. Cheers Blue Max
Luke 42083 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 The genre folders are fine because the way the options work is they go upwards from where the songs are located. So if you specify one of the structured options, the album folder is assumed to be the parent folder of any given song. Similarly if you specify the structured option with artists, the artist folder is assumed to be one up from the album folder. So it doesn't matter how many levels deep you want to go. What would matter though is if you have one random song directly in an artist folder or otherwise misplaced so that it doesn't follow the option you chose.
BlueMax1916 3 Posted May 22, 2021 Author Posted May 22, 2021 O.k., I see. Thank you for the explanation. Then I do not need to change anything. On a side note: please could you post a proper example of an 'album.nfo'. I generate them with MediaElch and I think it could have missed some tags. Thank you in advance. Cheers Blue Max

Cheers Blue Max I would just turn on album nfo saving, then go into the metadata editor and click save on an album. That will be your best example.
