Dreakon13 143 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 (edited) For starters, just want to say thanks for the continued support and development of the software. Other than the looong library scan (to be expected) it all seems pretty copacetic on my end (which is more than I can say for certain other media server softwares), and I've seen a few fixes/advantages to 4.6 already in my short time tinkering with it between yesterday and today. My music folder structure generally goes Music\Artist\Albums... and I would make a Singles folder alongside the Albums in the Artist folders. It would group them together under the Artist in Emby, and I'd just rename the group to Singles and go on with my day. With 4.6, it's reading each single in individually now as it's own album regardless of folder structure. I've tried: Along with a full library scan, and it doesn't seem to be organizing my singles in their "Singles" album folder like I was hoping. Maybe I should tinker with the metadata of all these singles and edit their album tags to "Single"? Would Emby group them together then under the artist? Long story short, is there a recommended method of handling singles so they scan in as organized as possible (and maybe not cluttering up the album area under the artists by giving each single its own album)? Even if it's different than what I was doing before, I'd just like to understand what I could be doing better to help the software do its job. Preferably without having to experiment and constantly re-scan the libraries because it takes a little while. Edited May 21, 2021 by Dreakon13
Carlo 4561 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 Hi, it's going to read the information from the tags of the file itself. So if you have only a single track from an album you are likely going to get this album with a single track showing up as that is exactly what you have.

To clarify, multiple singles may come out before an album is even announced, or maybe b-sides or acoustics that aren't officially on any album. It was nice to be able to group them under a custom "Singles" album/grouping previously (under their respective artist), but I guess that isn't really doable anymore? Without modifying the files tags? Is modifying the tags the appropriate way to accomplish what I'm looking to do? Edited May 21, 2021 by Dreakon13
Carlo 4561 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 Modifying the tags is likely the best approach if you really want them to show up as a singles album. I'd personally not do that, but that's just me, as I'd prefer to know what album it's actually from. We all use music differently so there is no right or wrong way...

Again, to clarify, there are a lot of circumstances where a "single" doesn't actually belong on any album. So there is no album to know it's actually from. But it's neither here nor there, I can review tags in these cases and have them organize appropriately if that's how it needs to work. Thank you.
Carlo 4561 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 I understand that, but being that Emby is reading the tagged information from the track itself that is the place that you would need/want to change it. 1
Luke 42080 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 That setting is only used to help Emby locate local artwork for albums and artists in your media folders. The folder structure will not influence the album grouping. You will need to look at the embedded information within the audio files. 1 1
