Emby 4.6 - Problems with music library; album art not displaying

After upgrading to the new version of Emby server, I am experiencing odd behavior with album cover art not displaying in my music library. For example, if I am viewing an artist's info page, Emby displays all of the albums, but none of them show album art. The only way I have found to get the album art to display is to refresh metadata and to leave "replace existing images" unchecked. After refreshing, the album art properly displays.

I have tried a library scan, refreshing my music library metadata with replace existing images checked and unchecked and nothing has corrected the issue. The only way I've found to correct it is to individually refresh metadata on the album itself.

Same here.

All my other Movies/TV Show is fine.. but my Album art for most of my music is gone.. which I painstakingly set myself through Emby. The art files are still in the folders with each album.. but 80% of them don't show anymore.

Going through and manually doing this is about to drive me crazy.,

Has a library scan completed?

Emby MusicBrainz server is getting hit pretty hard with this server update so you many need to check your server log.

I don't use any fetchers for my music. I manually do all my Meta-data for music and used Emby to set the Primary images for each folder. I had Emby set to store the images as hidden files.. and they're all in there.. but Emby just isn't using them for some reason. All looked fine before.

This update Requires music refresh to reread all embedded track tags to update new database columns, as Music is tag driven now and does not require any folder structure.

Not sure if related, but is the Music library "Music folder structure" option set to?

Other or Unstructured.

I changed this to 3rd option once. But it didn't seem to help. I also don't have it perfectly structured. I have some Folders inside Folders for some Albums.

I believe this will be a issues as the folder art will not be used.  But @Lukewill probably have to comment more.

I'm pretty sure this needs to be set to one of the "Perfect" options, as per other threads.

I appreciate the replies. Also, FWIW, I have all of my album art embedded into the file itself via MusicBrainz Picard. My file structure was set to other or unstructured, and I have done a metadata refresh with the option to replace existing images checked and unchecked. It did not fix the issue. I do have my folders organized into artist/album, so I will select that folder structure and do a refresh to see if it helps.

Let us know how you make out with this change!

I will. I have a database rescan from last night stuck at around 97% and it's moving very slowly. I did change the structure while this scan has been proceeding. Hope I haven't made my life harder..

In order to use local artwork, you need to pick one of the two structured options. Artwork embedded into audio files does not require this though.

Thanks @Luke. So, just to be clear, if I have artwork embedded into the file itself--i.e., not saved as a separate file in the same folder--it doesn't matter which structure I chose?

I am still waiting for a library scan to complete (it's going very slow) but I can report that I have embedded artwork and, prior to the current scan that is processing, I did a full library scan, and metadata refresh and I was not seeing album art.

Correct. Any mish mash folder structure is fine.

I'm pleased to report that my library scan has completed and all album art appears to be displaying properly. Huzzah!

Really? It seems to be hit and miss when it grabs local cover art. Mostly I find it never reads local cover art when the Album Artist = "Various Artists" and the album has multiple discs.

For years I have used the same folder structure for all my music and it has just worked.

I use  \Album Artist\Album\(Disc X)\

Are you saying I have to change my folder structure for all my music now? If so what is the preferred working structure to get latest Emby to read in local cover art?

That folder structure sounds fine, but make sure to configure the library option I mentioned.

The folder name must also exactly match the album artist tag in the audio files

I've tried all the available options and nothing works. Emby just won't import local cover art for multi-disc albums when the AlbumArtist tag is "Various Artists".

I setup this very simplified folder structure to test with (see attached .rar file):

Z:\Music\Guns N' Roses\G N' R Lies\(Disc 1)\05 - Patience.mp3
Z:\Music\Guns N' Roses\G N' R Lies\(Disc 1)\folder.jpg
Z:\Music\Guns N' Roses\Live Era '87-'93\(Disc 1)\01 - Nightrain.mp3
Z:\Music\Guns N' Roses\Live Era '87-'93\(Disc 1)\folder.jpg
Z:\Music\Guns N' Roses\Live Era '87-'93\(Disc 2)\11 - Paradise City.mp3
Z:\Music\Guns N' Roses\Live Era '87-'93\(Disc 2)\folder.jpg
Z:\Music\Various Artists\'70s Gold\(Disc 1)\01 - Boston - More Than a Feeling.mp3
Z:\Music\Various Artists\'70s Gold\(Disc 1)\folder.jpg
Z:\Music\Various Artists\'70s Gold\(Disc 2)\01 - Earth, Wind & Fire - September.mp3
Z:\Music\Various Artists\'70s Gold\(Disc 2)\folder.jpg
Z:\Music\Various Artists\70's Love Songs\(Disc 1)\01 - Daryl Hall & John Oates - She's Gone.mp3
Z:\Music\Various Artists\70's Love Songs\(Disc 1)folder.jpg

and the multi-disc album "'70s Gold" never imports the local cover art but the multiple disc album "Live Era '87-'93" does.

I use MusicBrainz PiCard to tag all my music so I know the tags are set perfectly.

Does the server show 70s fold as one album with two discs, or two different albums?

If it's one album, then the album-level artwork needs to be in the 70s gold folder, not in the disc folder.

It correctly shows up as a 2 disc album. For the sake of complete testing I'll trying putting the folder.jpg into the album folder as well.

Right then we're not looking in the disc subfolders for artwork, only in the album root folder.

That's not to say we can't start doing that, I just haven't seen this usage before.

Putting the folder.jpg into the album folder didn't help either.
