Hi Emby Friends,

I love that the latest 4.6 server update allows you to include Specials and Extras in the "Next Up" queue for shows, but there are a lot of extras (bloopers, NCOP/NCED, etc.) that I don't want included in the "Next Up" queue.

Is there any way to exclude extras/specials from the queue without needing to remove them from Emby entirely? I've tried both blanking out the season and episode numbers, as well as setting it to Season 0, and blanking out the "special episode info", but both ways it still shows up at the start of the "Next Up" queue.

Hi there, have you explored advanced library options?

I took a look through the settings but didn't see anything in particular that seemed like it would help. Is there a specific setting (or several settings) that I should be looking at?

The only related option I saw was "Display Specials within seasons they aired in", which I still want on. I would expect that would only apply to videos where the "Aired During Season" value is populated, which it is not for the extras I want to exclude from the queue.

I believe Luke is referring to the "Display specials within seasons they aired in" setting.

But don't think much testing has been done for this as everyone wanted these item to appear in Next up.

I believe the issue @Bradum is having is that Specials with an "airs in season" value appear in Next Up in the correct position, and they want this behaviour to continue, but Specials without an "airs in season" value also appear in Next Up, at the beginning of each show, rather than not appearing.

There's no way to only have the in-season Specials display.

I believe this has been discussed in the testing area.

That is correct. When there is a special that's part of a season I want to be able to include that in the play queue, but I don't necessarily want ALL extras/specials (Bloopers, "The Making of..", Interviews /w Actors, etc.) in the play queue for that show.

I had assumed that not including a value in the "Airs During Season" field would result in them not showing up, but it looks like they just show up at the start of the queue for that show.

Either being able to chose to include/exclude Specials, or having a separate place to put Extras so they don't show up int he play queue is pretty important for me. I don't really care if it's automated, I don't mind manually organizing things. Is this something I should submit as a feature request, since it sounds like the new Specials functionality is working as intended?

I would love to see this functionality.  I'm thrilled with Specials finally being inserted into the play queue, but have thrown all of my non-episode special features into a folder with the ".ignore" file for now to get them out of the queue.  I would love to be able to have a separate space for them...

OK so yes it should probably only use certain specials.

At the very least, only ever show those specials with s00enn names, with an option to remove even those.  I have many Anime series which include things like the OP and ED songs in the specials folder, and having these shown as if they are the first thing I'd want to watch is absurd!  But actually, many numbered specials are things like "making of" documentaries, which also should not be placed at the start.

As always, very responsive. Thanks Luke! Super glad I made the switch from Plex to Emby.

Surely if you mark them as WATCHED, then they won't show up.

Correct, but the challenge comes when you have other family members and friends who also use your server; even if you mark them as watched for yourself all the other users will still see them showing up for every show.

Sure, but they should show up for OTHER USERS until those users watch them.

EVERY user has their own watched list.

The root of the trouble is that Specials are being used for two very different things: episodes that don't fit into a regular TV season, and random stuff like featurettes and deleted scenes. I understand this is has been the way things are done for a long time ever since TVDb came up with it. But, has there been any discussion of separating the two? Something like support for an optional "Extras" folder -- with contents excluded automatically from "Up Next" -- in addition to the "Specials" folder could help a lot...
