basset 6 Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Having problems with EMBY working with Google home. I have gone through the setup guide and linked EMBY to google home, but when I say Hey Google, talk to MB home I get a message saying... "I can't reach your Emby Server. Make sure your server is accessible from your outside network. If the external server address has changed, redo the account linking to update your server address" I've opened both ports on my router and windows frewall 8096 and 8920 8096 is open 8920 is closed I can connect to my EMBY server remotely on my iPhone and I'm able to watch all my movies perfectly whilst away from my home. Any advice would be most appreciated
Carlo 4561 Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Hi, Couple of quick questions. Do you have Ember Premiere setup on your server? Did you setup an Emby Connect account linked to your account in Emby for GH to use?

Carlo 4561 Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Oh, I just noticed you don't have a secured connection as port 8920 isn't setup. Google Home requires a secure connection to work (Google Requirement, not Emby's) as per the KB setup instructions. You can see how others have done this starting here

Carlo 4561 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 The short of is that you need to setup your Server with an SSL cert so that Google Home can communicate with it over a secured connection.

Carlo 4561 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 Much of the functionality I do believe is available without the secured connection but I've seen the same issues just go away and become solid with Google Home when using the secured connect (weird). But some functionality does require it, like if you want to playback music from Emby to the GH device. On my personal system it's very hit and miss over non secured but works 99.9% of the time over an SSL connection.
basset 6 Posted May 21, 2021 Author Posted May 21, 2021 Right I deffinitly look into the SSL connection thanks 1

reyemtm 1 Posted December 16, 2021 Posted December 16, 2021 Jumping in here, I have a secure connection to emby (forward port 443 to home server, proxy 8096 via caddy with ssl cert on custom domain). How do I connect my Connect account to GH. I may have connected an older account a few years ago. I get the same error as the OP.
reyemtm 1 Posted December 16, 2021 Posted December 16, 2021 Ok, may have figured it out - I needed to "unlink" i.e. use the "stop emby home from remembering me" link from the web page - https://assistant.google.com/services/a/uid/000000b6334db7e5?hl=en-US then re-link the connect account with this same link. 1
