EZEd 60 Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 I have several files, some video, some music/audio that do not show up in their respective libraries. Emby database does not detect them. Because they are not detected, no entries are provided for them in the UI. Nor do they show up in the Metadata Manager. I have tried the old trick multiple times of : (1) removing files from their storage folder; (2) re-scanning library; (3) place files back in folder; (4) re-scan library (5) refresh server to no avail. No matter what I refresh/re-scan I can not get the server to detect these files and provide an entry for them. Is there some other method that we can use to force the emby server database to detect these files or better yet windows explorer browse to the folder and/or specific files and point the server directly to them? Something like and import function or force add files function that can make these files visible inside of the server database and thereby presented in the UI and Metadata Manager?
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 What kind of library? Exactly what is the name and path to the files involved? To what folder does the root of the library point? You also need to provide logs from after a scan. That will allow experts here to help you better and sooner.
Carlo 4561 Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Hi, Something you can try that often helps in situations like this is to make sure you have your Libraries setup to write a NFO file with the media. Then when you notice something not being in a library you can open the NFO file if present and take a look at what it matched to. Often time when you don't follow the recommended naming convention you could get a false match on a movie or series and this is very easy to find using the NFO file. For music/audio you want to first take a look at your embedded tags in the tracks as that is what Emby will use to identify to "Album Artist". Let us know if this helps.
pwhodges 2012 Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Often even simply changing the display order to "Date Added" will show up new media with an unexpected name. Paul 1
EZEd 60 Posted May 19, 2021 Author Posted May 19, 2021 Yeah I need something more like a file browser function to compare what the database sees from a file index standpoint in a given folder versus what is actually there on an individual file bases so I can compare. I remember with the issue of collections that the XML file actually had the listing for movie files but did not present all of the files indexed in the XML in the collection UI. It would have been helpful then and would also be helpful now if we had a way to directly verify the contents of folders that emby is pointing to (other than by NFO file). A direct file compare would be best. That way I we could have a visual index of what emby sees and a windows explorer window of what is physically in a folder to do direct comparison. I assume all of your answers above are confirming that there is no such method (other than an NFO file, which is a report of what the database sees not a direct file compare utility)?
Carlo 4561 Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Have you tried the reports plugin? It can list all the info for movies or shows and show you the path. You can sort by a particular column such as path and even export a report to csv or excel file.
EZEd 60 Posted May 19, 2021 Author Posted May 19, 2021 I may try it. I generally stay away from plugins as they have caused me other problems in the past. If there is no way to do a direct file compare, I'll just drop it.
Carlo 4561 Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 You could install it, generate and excel file to work with then uninstall the plugin. But unlike many other plugins, this really doesn't do anything unless you're actually using it from the plugin UI.
