Emby Client Only

What's the best way to go about building some emby clients on android boxes that are just that, emby clients only. Boot the box and loads into the emby client with nothing else on the boxes.

Personally I'd not like that but you may have special needs.

One way would be to replace the home screen with the Emby Client.  If you google this you can find directions but it's a bit different for each version of Android.

Hi.  Sell them to whom?  They are useless without a server and content to view...

It's one thing to do it for yourself but another to sell to other people.
I know from a customer support standpoint I would hate that because if I ask a user to force close or check the store for updates or to run some other diagnostic they would not be able to do it easily.  That would then make support harder for us.

As an example how would the user access the store (google or amazon) in case they needed to purchase or re apply a purchase to activate the app for full playback. Or to get to the store to change their login credentials?

From a personal standpoint if you took the ability for me to check weather or fire up Youtube I'd be hating that box. :)

Sell them to people with servers, I can and would love to do this if I have permission to do so.

Yes I got the premise.  It just wouldn't be for me personally or any of my family members as they use lots of different apps from Youtube to radio stations to other online services like Amazon, Hulu and Netflix

It sounds like you want to copy the functionality of LibreELEC but instead of using a Pi, using Android.  A lot of people have moved off HTPC and LibreELEC type environments to get the extra functionality these cheap boxes provide.

Have you thought about just using LibreELEC since the work is already done for you and this is quite simple to do as well.

Honestly I can't see much of a market for this. Imagine having a standalone box for each of your apps. A box for Netflix, Emby, Hulu, etc etc... Unless you literally download every single on of your files and don't ever pay for even one service like Netflix or Amazon I can't see a need for it?! And honestly.... I believe in paying for services that I use in some capacity!

Hi.  No, I think we'd rather you not do this as I think it would create too much confusion.  People with Emby servers already do not need to purchase a single-purpose box for Emby.  They just download the app on whatever platform they are on.

Thanks.

Imagine having a box for emby that connects to your server that already has netflix, hulu, hbomax, starz, showtime, amazon, live tv with a box that just works 😲

Will respect your wishes but I bet you will see this happen regardless of what I wanted to do.

And what will an Emby app do for a server with a Netflix connection on it?

Mr. DigitalMedia,

You might not have all-knowledge like you portray.  I don't download any vids.  It doesn't sound smart to have all those subscriptions and not use the services you are paying for, instead ignoring them and stealing stuff.  You must be stuck in the basement also since you have all those movies, just from a different source.

And, the foul language is not need, I'm sure.  Have a good day.

I had some great idea's for a tv stick for an emby client but I will pass and let the other people who read this put them on amazon and I will buy there tv stick with emby client BECAUSE ITS A GREAT FRIGGEN IDEA!!!!!!

That is exactly the behavior that got Kodi tossed from Amazon.  No thank you.

I think this discussion has come to a conclusion.
