I was using tablet(galaxy tab A 2016 with Spen, android 8.1.0) connected to notebook's server via notebook's hotspot without internet. it was very fast and there was no problem.

my network is little bit different. I'm not using AP(Wifi). I connect to the notebook's hotspot because this is direct and much faster.

I don't remeber when the lagging issue started, it is about 2 weeks ago since emby became slow on the tablet. audio has no problem but video is lagging. I have to lower the quality to 720p 1Mbps on emby player's setting. there was no deley even on direct quality before this issue.

I don't think this is my network problem. there are several reason from my test

1. same video, direct quality, playing on mx player, accessing my video via cx file explorer's local network: tablet has no lagging

2. same video, on emby: tablet has lagging. audio is good, but video stops at some points and then catch up the audio(every time it is same scene, so It's because the scene is high bitrate), playback time goes well, only the video is lagging, there is no loading sign.

3. same video, on emby: my phone(galaxy s8, android 9) has no lagging

4. same video, on emby: old phone(galaxy note 3 older android version): audio is good, video is stuck.

5. same video, on emby: chromecast has no lagging

emby server and android app are all same latest version.

I think emby update changed something so older android became slow.

I want my tablet's emby to became fast again.

what should I do? change server or android app to the older version?

I played the video about 1minute, and experienced same issue.
I don't know which file to upload in the directory, but relavant time file was this file only.

You know, I notice similar behavior on my shield 2 days ago. I wrote it off at the time to something odd on my network, but maybe it was not.  I haven't used it since.
TiviMate was working fine at the time and since then.

If I use Emby again and it happens, I'll grab logs.

[Judas] Black Lagoon - S01E14.mkv

317MB

screenshot is the tablet playing the video.

problem is not just for this video. regardless of videos, there is lagging.

Do you have this problem with all HEVC files or just Main 10 files?
How about audio codec?  Does this only happen with Opus audio?

mp4

H264 Main AAC LC

H264 High AAC LC

H264 constrained Baseline AAC HE-AACv2

H264 Constrained Baseline AAC LC

no problem with these files

mkv
HEVC Main 10 AC3

HEVC Main 10 AAC LC

HEVC Main 10 OPUS

have problem with these

It's maybe because I watched mkv recently that I thought emby had problem suddenly. I tested many files and only mkv had the problem.

So, is it normal that mkv is slower than mp4? it seems bitrate has nothing to do with lagging. big bitrate mp4 was good and small bitrate mkv was lagging.

Can you post the MEDIA INFO section of one of these files please?

It will be at the bottom of the detail screen.

If I'm right I think you might be trying to play back 10 bit HVEC files which isn't going to work well on that tablet only having a Snapdragon 410 processor.
To playback 10 bit HEVC with hardware decoding you really need at least a Snapdragon 820.

Thought that might be the issue.

What you can try doing when using that tablet playing these 10 bit files is force transcoding (assuming your server handles this well) either by lowering the bit rate or using the playback correction both available on the COG menu in the OSD during playback.
